  1. Myles: This is from the other guitar player in my band. We were hoping you could help... thanks so much! Mike Traynor YCM Custom Valve 40 1x12 bought new in October from Musician's Friend. 1) low cycle hum will occur intermittently, lasting for about 5 seconds. This has been occurring with more and more frequency of late. It happens while I'm playing, seemingly during bassier chording. But I've also experienced it between songs as well. The hum will dirty the sound big time. This is NOT pickup hum, as I've tried with different guitars, cables, etc, unfortunately with the same results. 2) Volume drops also occur at frequent intervals. The drops will usually cause loss of about 20-25% of the total volume, and can last for over a minute. These also do occur with varied guitars and cable setups. Both the loss and subsequent volume return are instantaneous. I've checked over tubes, wiring, speakers, etc, and all appears to be securely in place, and in fine condition. The amp has never been dropped, or abused, and only has about four gigs and 12 rehearsals on it. For the record, none of these problems occurred out of the box.
  2. Myles: I have a friend that owns a Fender Super Champ and one or more of the tubes have gone bad. He said he can't find the 6V6 (or the 6L6 - I can't remember). Any recommendation on where he should get these tubes? Thanks, Mike
  3. Mike, It could be many things. There is a lot of DSP stuff going on in these amps. I would send it back for warranty repair or replacement. Thanks. That's what I did today. The new one should be here in a few days. Someone told me it was a bad pot but it's not a simple replacement procedure (since it's motorized). Damn technology!
  4. Myles, I just bought a Fender Cyber-Twin from Musician's Friend. The Master Volume is not working correctly. I have to turn it to 7 to get it to about a third volume. At 7 and a half it jumps up to almost full volume. There is no in-between. Any ideas? Or should I just send it back? Thanks, Mike
  5. Myles, I had poted a thread about this, but it was suggested that I ask you directly... I am using a Digitech GNX3 through a Tech21 Power Engine 60. My signal chain is such: Guitar - GNX3 - PE60 - P.A. I get a great tone coming from the P.A. (downright FANTASTIC) but the sound from the PE60 is severly lacking... no "life" to it. Any idea what I could do to liven up the tone from the amp? I don't want to change any settings on the GNX3 because it is giving me EXACTLY what I want (from the P.A., not the amp). Thanks, Mike
  6. Mike, Please copy and paste what you want me to look at a post over hear. I cannot keep track of things in multiple areas. Sorry... I guess I should have done that in the first place: My 2-year-old Fender Champion 30 (solid state) amp is giving me fits. Sometimes I get a "warbly" sound out of it (especially when playing lower notes with distortion) and sometimes it just cuts out altogether. I never turn the volume up past "4", so I doubt if it is a blown speaker. Any ideas as to what *I* can do to repair it? I'm not totally incompetent around a circuit board. I can test and replace components and but that's about it. Don't ask me to design something. BTW, I don't use it to gig but it is great for practicing... so I don't want to junk it if I don't have to. I also don't want to lay down money to someone else to fix it when I can buy a replacement for relatively little money. Thanks, Mike
  7. Myles: I posted an amp question in the guitar forum and it was recommended that I seek out your advice. Can you take a look at this post and see what you can do? http://www.musicgearnetwork.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=19;t=004294 Thanks, Mike
