  1. Myles, I'm looking at a brownface concert... but it has more power than I need (the 6L6 circuit). Is it possible to put 6v6's in this amp? If so, what has to be done to make it work. thanks Myles, Roy
  2. Hey Myles, Hope you had a wonderful thanksgiving! A series of questions I should know the answers to already... What happens to a tube amp when you put a speaker of a different ohms than is recommended? Can you go in either direction safely? The Champ is 3.2 ohms... I assume 4 is not an issue but what about 8? thanks Myles
  3. Myles, I finally broke down and took my own advice and ordered a '73 silverface champ. It should arrive the middle of next week. It already has a three prong power cable. The speaker is not original but is an old alnico something (we'll see what it sounds like). Tubes have been replaced with ones that are generic newer tubes - sovteks I think. I don't know if the caps were replaced... Do I remember that the speaker is 3.2 ohms on this amp? Can you fit a 10 in there or are you stuck with the 8? What else should I be thinking about to make this the best sounding little amp it could be? thanks for the input
  4. thanks Myles. I'm out of town for a few weeks so it won't be until mid or late July but I'll give you a call to see what works for you.
  5. Hey Myles, Could you say something about the differences in sound between pre-amps using 12AX7's, 6SL7's, and EF86? I'm beginning to get gas to spend some bucks on a serious amp and trying to make sense of all of the options out there... Of course, before I make any decisions, I'll try to connect with you to try out some more toys at your house Also, there is a company that builds an adapter to allow the use of the 6SL7 in place of a 12ax7 http://www.electrosonicamplifiers.com/otherproductsservices.htm... any thoughts on how that might affect the sound of any amp/my peavey delta? Thanks Myles.
  6. Myles, I did get the amp back and it is working fine. I replaced the V2 which was microphonic with an ECC83 and put the Chinese 12AX7 in V1. Sounds sweet... Christopher, I tested the EL84Y's for Myles. They sounded very nice but I had two tubes go bad. He told me that the JJ's are the way to go. Roy
  7. Welcome back Myles. I hope your time away was refreshing.
  8. Myles, Can you say something about bias and fixed bias amps? How does one deal with this? Are you constrained to try to find tubes that matched the ones that were taken out or, or, or... thanks Roy
  9. Myles, Let me join the throngs in thanking you... I've recently begun playing electric again after years of acoustic only and have come across two amps that I'm considering - a Duncan Convertible ($350) and an all tube acoustic ($250) (I think it is a 164 but not sure - it is obviously a boogie clone down to the hardwood cabinet and cascading volume controls). Any thoughts on either? What should I look for or out for? Should I grab one of them before someone else does or keep looking? Thanks for any input. Roy
