…a friend of mine is playing there on Sunday the 17th of march. If You are there, don’t miss the opening act.

I really hope Yamaha will consider implementing the whole YC organ engine in the Montage. Having the organ sounds "stealing" so many voices isn't really optimal - and they have a virtual model ready for implementation. Sometimes it's as if Yamaha make things very difficult for themselves. And us. 😅

Greatest Rock Keyboardist of our generation?
Analogaddict replied to TommyRude's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Of the "younger" generation I'd say nobody can rock like Jens Johansson. Not because he's Swedish too, but for the sheer width of his music. He can play jazz fusion on stuff like "Heavy Machinery" with Allan Holdsworth, rock it out with acts like Yngwie Malmsteen and Dio as well as perform beautiful acoustic piano material. He can play like Jordan Rudess but chooses not to. 🤣 His pitch bend chops are to die for, his timing is impeccable and he plays better bass on keys than most bass players... Check him out! -
I'm deeply saddened to see Jim Beard has passed away. He was a huge influence on me when I started getting into instrumental music and jazz, and has been a productive member of the music community for many years. For those of You who do not know him, here are two clips; "Diana", featuring Toots Thielemans "Camieff" Jim Beard, 26 August 1960 - 4 March 2024. Song of the Sun (CTI, 1990) Lost at the Carnival (Lipstick, 1994) Truly (Escapade, 1997) Advocate (JVC Victor, 1999) Revolutions (Intuition, 2008) Show of Hands (Sunnyside, 2013) "Chunks and Chairknobs" (Jazzline, 2019)

Yamaha E.S.P - as it pertains to Montage M
Analogaddict replied to ElmerJFudd's topic in The Keyboard Corner
It runs like a champion in light mode on the M2. Eight piano and pad parts and not over 80%. That's good enough for me. Next step will be loading a backup file to see how it handles my gig sounds. -

Tested in "lite" mode yesterday on my 2015 MBP. If I layer three AWM pianos and a string patch, I'm well over 80% as soon as I start playing. It works significantly better though, and I believe I could make it work for one of my bands with a little careful programming. Still, that's not what I want, I basically want my whole Montage in a portable format. I will try with a M2 Mac mini later today if there's time. Very exciting stuff! BTW, we are basically reinventing the rack module here. 🤣 Come on manufacturers, just release your stuff in rack format already! -

Not yet, I actually don't trust computers on stage at all so I'm looking for headroom even when it's using many parts in 'full' mode. The way things look, I'll be doing some traveling with a computer based rig (and a clonewheel in case things go down) from now on so I figure I'm going to switch right away to be on top of things. This week I'll try ESP on a Mac Mini M2, hopefully that will be enough. I'd prefer to not use a laptop since a rack mount computer is more protected. Last summer I had everything ranging from hot sun to rain, thunder and lightning during gigs. 😅 -

Ok, my 2015 MBP with 8GB RAM is not enough to run this… at a buffer of 256 I’m hitting the ceiling as soon as I start layering things - oddly enough, the AWM parts are the problem. Layering multiple instances of FM X and AN X is ok though. 8 parts of FM and AN gives me approximately 70% while two layered pianos + a string pad sends me well over 100%. I need a more modern computer for this. I want to 100% clone my Montage M for flying and such, so I only need one instance running. -

What are the specs on Your computer? I just stumbled over a Mac Mini M2 with 8GB Ram, wondering if it's a good start for a racked Montage... -

I couldn’t access that button in Mainstage, but it worked in Key Performer..! -

I have no idea, I leant it to the bass player in our band and haven’t laid hands on it since August. Are there settings I should check? -

I installed it on my 2015 MBP today - unfortunately the UI doesn’t fit the screen and I can’t find any way to resize it… 🤦♂️I can’t scroll to the first two parts and therefore I can’t load anything. I’ll try again tomorrow. -

I loaded a couple of presets in Key Performer just to try and it seemed to work fine. I’m getting my laptop back on Tuesday, I’ll try more then..! It’s a 2015 MBP with 8 gb ram so I’m guessing it will choke. 😅 -

An even better option imho would be a Montage M module with USB and LAN ports and all the inputs and outputs of the big Montage. If you’re in a computer environment, simply connect to your computer, if you’re playing live just bring the module. I can see loads of people that would love to add the Montage sound to their rig but already have rigs and no need for another board, but still not using Mainstage and so on to the extent where a montage ESP changes their current workflow.
