hello Myles, i am very new to this preamp valve stuff but here goes... i have a marshall valvestate 265 combo and my preamp valve is going on me. (im getting a strange hiss type of noise when i play through it) my question is: In this kind of an amp that has a single valve, how much does this valve actually affect my sound? also, what valves would you recommend in this situation and will any preamp valves work like 12ax7's or do i need ecc83's or what should i be using? thanks in advance, Nick
