  1. Hi Steve, Welcome! Leo's (now Leo's Pro Audio) is still on Telegraph Ave. in Oakland ... at least I assume it's the same, since I've only lived in Oakland for about six years ...
  2. Uh ... I'm 33, and it's debatable as to whether or not I'm a "real" keyboard player (I've done a great job of forgetting the classical technique I spent years learning as a youngster ... in the long run, I was probably more influenced by the fact that my piano teacher was also an INCREDIBLE Thereminist who had an original RCA model next to the piano that she let me play [extremely badly!] a couple times when I excelled at my lessons). One of the highlights of my life was seeing Leon Theremin appear in public in the USA for the first time since he'd been spirited back to the USSR by the KGB (NKVD? whatever they were called then). Indeed, my main interest is in analog synths and old keyboards (combo organs, EPs, Clavs). These days, I do most of my keyboard work on an Alesis Andromeda, and extensively used modern analog modular synths by Wiard, MOTM/Synthesis Technology and Blacet Research. No computer/MIDI synths for me, thanks. I mostly play stuff in "underground rock" genres (especially punk & psychedelic), and have been on a bunch of indie albums that you've never heard of (trust me!). But I also like jazz (especially 60s/70s free jazz and Miles' 70s electric work), folkish stuff (John Fahey to Fairport Convention), electronic compositions (Subotnick!), honky-tonk/outlaw country (Hank sr., Johnny, Merle, etc.), Afrobeat (Fela), Dub (Perry, Tubby), classic funk/soul, and good ol'-fashioned classic rock/pop (Beach Boys, Monkees) & metal (Sabbath, Purple, BOC, Motorhead). Unlike most analog synth freaks, I don't like most techno, prog, newage or synthpop (although there are exceptions to all categories). I also play bass & violin, and bits of drums & guitar, but that's for another forum ...
