  1. Jeff, I'm from Pittsburgh too!!! Shady Side in fact. Had a band many years ago called "The Baskerville Hounds". Use to play at the Varsity House in Oakmount three nights a week. Good to see some folks from the steel city.........not any more though. Peace, Jazzman (George)
  2. There was an international contest to see who would rule the world. The thought was if a selected group could figure out a way to get to the sun they would win the contest and rule the world. There was a group of scientists from Russia, a group from Japan and an Italian group. They were each asked by a neutral country if any one group could figure out a way to get to the sun, if they could then they would as the grand prize be able to rule the world. Each group was given 6 months to come up with a solution. The Russian group stated that it was impossible to get to the sun and bowed out of the compitition. The group from Japan stated after a long review, and almost had a solution, gave up and stated that they too felt that it was impossible to get to the sun. The spokman for the Italian group stood up and said, "Thatsa easy.........we plan on going at night!!!" Jazzman
  3. Linwood...............Totally Awsome!! I had a blast playing with it. Where in the heck did you find this one??? Jazzman
  4. Little Johnny joke: Little Johnny is a nasty little boy, you can never trust him on what his little dirty mind thinks. Teacher: Johnny, if you answer this math problem correctly, I will give you extra credit. Little Johnny: OK teacher Teacher: Johnny, there is a hunter walking in the woods and comes across a telephone line with three little birdies on it...The hunter aims and shoots one of the little birdies....... how many are left.....? Little johnny: None! Teacher: Now johnny, the hunter saw three little birdies on the telephone wire and shot only one of them, now how many are left?? Little Johnny: None! Teacher: Johnny, how can you come up with that answer?? Explain. Little Johnny: Well....the hunter saw the three little birdies on the telephone wire, and shot one of them, but the other two birdies flew away because of the noise the gun made. Teacher: Well Johnny, that is not quite the answer that I had in mind.....but I like the way you think. Little Johnny: Well teacher I have a problem for you too. Teacher (thinking ....I wonder what little Johnny will come up with ?)and responds by saying: OK tell me. Little Johnny: Well, there are three teachers sitting on a park bench. They all have lolly pops in their hands. One is licking it, one is biting it, the other one is sucking on it............which one was married?? Teacher (upset with this...red in the face states): .........ah..... er..... the one licking it. Little Johnny: No! No! No!......the one with the wedding ring on her finger............but I like the way you think! Jazzman

  6. Tony the song on the whole sounds real nice. Vocals are clean and up front. I like the keys in this, done well. A really good job. Take care, Jazzman
  7. I actuall have an 18" china, 16" wuhan, and a 10" wuhan. The 18" wuhan was too sloppy for me. I like a quick attack. On the 18" china cymbal, I like using it with the edges down. I always use all parts of the cymbal in Jazz. You can get many effects from one cymbal. Jazzman
  8. MK1, my set-up is exactly the way you have stated. I also have a small blanket inside the bass drum on the bottom to help with some reverberation and possible overlaping of the sound to the next beat. The further back you place the mic in the drum the more low end should be present. The closer you are to the drum and beater, the less bass drum you should hear, to a point. I was going to try out having a mic set up on the beater outside the drum and one inside the drum as you have stated. Kicking the mic on an angle helps reduce the direct sound pressure head on to the mic and provides added depth and body that you want to amplify with the mic. Just my thoughts. Jazzman
  9. Infusion..........my way of thinking with the artists. I grew up on Jazz, Soul, R&B and Funk. CalTjader, Jazz Crusaders, George Duke, Cannonball Adderley, Yellow Jackets, Temtations, Four Tops, Santana, Dave Brubeck, Grand Funk Railroad, George Shearing, Blackbyrds, Kenny G, James Brown, Pieces of a Dream, Chuck Magione, Bob James, Rodney Franklin, Deon Warrwick(sp), Marvin Gay, Spyro Gyra, Bill Withers, Bonney James, Booker-T, Con-Funk Shun, Jimmy Smith, Les McCann, Roy Ayers, Stanley Clark, Gill Scott Heron, Tom Scott, Ronie Laws, Loni Liston Smith, McKoy Tyner, Jean-Luc Ponty, The Supremes, Grover Washington, on and on..... Peace my friend........... Jazzman
  10. Hey Dansouth, I was reading through this thread again and didn't realize you lived in Pittsburgh. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif I'm originally from Pittsburgh, Pa., the Shady Side Area, know of it??? I now live in Bloomfield Hills Michigan. Pittsburgh has really changed. I visited a very close friend of mine last week. Dave an outstanding thread, I posted earlier. A lot of outstanding folks out there, in the business. It's nice to be a part of it. Thanks and good job Dave http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif MY fade out...... 11. Llarion, listened to your Acid Jazz song, really sounds good, but I'm sure your tired of hearing about it , the trumpet needs to be more up front. All else is great!!! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I LOVE JAZZ !!!!!!!!! Since I made that statement, I should tell you about myself. I play by ear, and can't read music,(used to though)and own a studio. I have around 100 songs on DAT right now that I play all of the instruments on. Keys, bass, 6-string guitar, drums, percussion, synths and drum machines that I program. I'm putting together my first Jazz CD. It needs some finishing touches and it should be ready to go, seems like it's never done. Actually I have around 900 songs that I have on cassettes, to which I plan on re-doing to DA88's in my studio when I get a chance, and as I need them. Unfortunately, I have a day job. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/mad.gif I get into Smooth Jazz, Acid Jazz, Ambient, Abstract, R&B, Hip-Hop/Jazz. I have some clients that I do some Gospel tunes for to which I put the Jazz influence to, sounds cool, and moves you. I do a lot of demo's for clients, some of which I develop the tunes, and others they do. I've had a pair of drumsticks in my hand when I was 7 yrs old. During the last 15 years I've played keys mostly. Bass is another love of mine. I can pump out songs in 3 hrs or less depending on the mode that I'm in, complete. I do my own graphics and art work for myself and others. I'm having a blast........don't want to leave the studio. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/cool.gif One thing though, I'm clueless on getting my music on MP3, the way yours is set up. I would like to share my works with all. How do you go about doing it? This should be put on another thread, I guess. Phil, thanks for allowing me to comment...... very good work.........very cool. 12. Hi, everyone, thought I'd stop in to say......... Hi. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif My name is George Santorilla, have a wife, two sons in college($$$$.....going.........going .......gone!!!), and a cat. I started playing keys 15 years ago, in an attempt to get my first son to take lessions at the age of 6. Well he did take lessons, sounded good and he didn't touch the keys since. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/frown.gif I am a drummer by trade, had a pair of sticks in my hand when I was 7 years old in Pittsburgh, Pa. I stopped playing in bands that I started at the age of 21 when I needed to get a life in engineering (so I thought), building industrial plants for General Motors. Years ago: I had 10 piece R&B bands with singers doing splits on stage at colleges, to 4 piece Jazz bands working in night clubs. Back to the future: I now own a studio called( Off Duty Studios, Inc.)in Bloomfield, MI. Have two keyboards, a Yamaha Clavinova CPV7 semi-weighted keys(with midi connections on it, of course), and a QS6, cards and synths. I want to get a KARMA (my way of thinking), a Kirtzwell, and a Korg. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I play by ear and can't read music. I have a whole studio full of gear to which I play on, for my clients and myself. Some of the gear that I have is a 7 piece white Pearl Export Series set of miked drums, percussion gizmos, 4-string bass, 6-string Black Beauty guitar, an array of peddels, out board gear, synths, keys, drum machines(which I program), Mackie 32/8 mixing board, Tascam DA88's, Tascam DAT recorder, Tascam dual 302 casette recorder, HHB CD burner, mikes, JLB monitors, etc, etc, etc. (My wife dosn't understand the humor in this at all) I record demos for clients, and do all of the graphics and art work for cassettes and CD's, posters, etc. I play and produce Cool Jazz, Acid Jazz, R&B, Easy Listening, and I'm currently working on a Jazz Gospel project with a client, really cool stuff. I'm also working on my first Jazz album of my work, and it seems like it's never finished you know. I have produced some radio spots. I have at least 1,000 songs of my own work, on cassette and on DAT that I need to get to the publics ears, ASAP!!!!!! (I could use some help here) Wrap-up: It's nice to be on a forum like this, with all of you heavy hitters out there. I hope I can provide some advice, and help in any way that I can. My handle is .......offdutystudios@aol.com Thanks for letting me in on the game, it's my pleasure. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/cool.gif (as he bows out) Jazzman
