Finally Project Studios Make Money
I have been working on a prototype to solve this problem of (no work, in the studio.)
1. I recruit anyone who has a desire to let the world hear his or her talent. 2. I bring them in the studio and record 1 - 2 songs for free. (I make them sound good) 3. I let them know I own the Master. 4. After recording I assemble all artists (with similar genre) on one CD and encourage them to sell to their friends and family through me, via Mail order or Internet). 5. I pay them commission on sales. 6. After 100 sales they would go to the next level where they would receive more production and promotion benefits. (Details in manual)
You can visit http://www.brotheranderon.com to see how this is going.
I would love to expand this program to involve more project studios. All over the world
1. To become a part of a "brother Anderson" recording studio network. 2. Find and produce "anyone" & make them sound good. 3. Have them sell through brother Anderson 4. Your studio and artist make money from sales 5. Your studio owns all masters.
Of course, you can take this idea and try to make it work for yourself. Or we can both try to work together and benefit together.
When I tested this product I was surprised of all the checks that showed up in my mailbox. From my artist selling their products to their friends and family.
I know this is something that is tried and true I have all the envelopes to prove it Check on my website you will see and hear regular people who believe in themselves. And also in whom I believe.
If you want to be involved in this you can email me producer@brotheanderson.com

Yeah so you own the master recordings.... but you don't own the songs. Are you paying artist royalites or mechanicals?

I wonder if i shoud put on a defense here..
Tipically The artists that work with me are work for hire.they get paid commission. not royalties or mechanics. I (or the studio if networked) fully own the production.
Artist are free to negotiate something different if they feel they are very marketable.

Brother A, I'm a little confused now. You say they are a work for hire, but get paid a commission? In my understanding, a work for hire is getting paid a flat fee.

Do you give the performer a copy of their songs? If so, whats the incentive for them to sell your comp CD instead of their own?
You can own the master recordings but unless you have the artist sign away the copyright and publishing too you have nothing but a sound recording (as I understand it).

You know, a variant has been done in Nashville for years - except that the 'artists' pay to record the 1-3 songs. We usully refer to this sort of session as a 'sleazy custom record'. But you say that the artist records for free? That would take it out of the 'sleazy category (but would interfere with your profit margin if most o your artists don't want to sell other people's product. What if the artists don't have (A) a band or (B) a clue as to what their song needs to be a 'song' rather than a poem? Will you pay the musicians out of your own pocket? And will you essentially re-work or re-write their ideas for free? And there's another issue that you mentioned - how do you make 'anyone sound good'? I've only been engineering for about 15 years, but I don't know how to do that yet. I guess I really don't understand how you can make 'anyone' sound good.
But if you can, when do you want me to come record? I've got these rhymes that I think could make a pretty good song, and even though most of the bands I play with won't give me a mic, I don't think I sing THAT bad...

Thank you all for your perspective.
I went back to the drawing board. Let me know what you think.
Brother Anderson Productions (BAP) is focused on working with individuals who have a passion for music, singing, or performing. This is the most important quality our A&R representative looks for in an individual. If you currently sing for your local church, club, local event or even friends, you are one step away from tapping into what could be your greatest treasure. After going through the recruiting & interview process with the A&R Representative, qualified individuals are hired as independent entertainers. Entertainers work together in collaboration with BAP to Write songs, Produce Records, and perform live shows. BAP owns all compositions and Entertainers are paid for all their work. BAP's Executive Producer oversees and directs the collaboration & recording process, in a positive & fun environment. BAP is open to all types of Genre; (Gospel, R&B, Hip-Hop, Rock, etc. as long as music communicates a positive message.)
Entertainers are the Driving force behind CD sales and promotion. They work together to sell their collaborated album to their friends, family & co-workers, while building a following and promoting each other’s talent. Entertainers encourage their circle of friends and even strangers to order CD's through http://www.brotheranderson.com or through BAP Mail Order System. Entertainers will benefit greatly from live show events, since they also get paid commission from ticket sales (for which they are responsible). Prospective customers can visit brotheranderson.com to preview Songs, download samples and purchase CDs. BAP's Entertainment Manager works with all entertainers to guide them in sales, promotion, talent development, and preparations for live show events. BAP Provides a place to utilize your talent while maintaining your current Job, and Family lifestyle.
After Entertainers have collaborated and helped to sell a set amount of CD's, they would have attained to a higher level of achievement. At this point they would have a small following that can now buy tickets for BAP's upcoming live shows. It is a great feeling to have your audience sing along with you when you are performing, because they are familiar with your songs. The Entertainment Manager Works with the Entertainers to select the best songs to bring out their performance at the live events.
These live events are also a perfect opportunity for Entertainers to make additional income from their performance and CD Sales. Since tickets will be sold mostly to the entertainer's peers, it will create a positive dynamic presence at the live event.
