Quite a big can of worms huh.

Define what you are going to do with what you buy. Research different products that do what you want until it hurts, and then research some more. Sometimes you can buy what others say, get it and find out it's not what you need or it doesn't do what you wanted. It is mostly personal preference but your research will take care of that. There are some sites like home recording.com that will assist as well. Do a search for starting a home studio as well.

As far as the bundles go, Waves are great!! There are so many good ones it is hard to just say this one or that one...

you are not starting this home studio as a business are you?

maybe a visit to Phil's "project studio" forum will help you understand more about your needs :
http://www.musicplayer.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=27;DaysPrune=45

In any case I recomend you start slow.
Choose a software (don't ask espcailly not here) since every 10 people you'd ask you'll get 12 different replys. If you know any one clse to you who is involved with music ask them, it is better to have a close friend who is somewhat familier then 1000 of us experts who are far away.

Learn the program you chose slowly, once you ready start investing slowly. Always improving your weakest link.
start by getting a decent mic, preamp , convertors etc..

Read music magazine and books.

Good luck

Danny
