What do you folks think about charging for e-mailing an MP3 to the client. Most of our clients(car dealers, motor events)like to be sent an MP3 as the master  for broadcast. Most think, "everybody has e-mail why charge for something like that?" We used to make money on shipping reels FED-Ex. Why not deliver of MP3? Does it turn more people off to have that extra charge to MP3 something. People don't like to be nickel and dimed to death. Any info would be greatly appreciated

All of the major studios I know of charge for mp3 uploads. They also charge for FTP uploads. It's become a pretty common activity for the audio studios. The places that do spots have been doing it for years. A nationwide radio spot goes out to about 300 affiliate stations around the country. They all used to go out by Fedex, now they are all email attachments. Charges vary. Some studios charge for the time it takes to up load and charge full studio rate, others charge a fee per megabit and do it as a back office operation.

I charge a fee based on the length/size of the piece being ripped and sent. It's one of those "nickel and dime" services, like rearranging the song order on a demo CD they bring in, extra CD copies and labels on those discs. I include the MP3 work with packages but, again, feel it's a proper thing to charge (reasonably) for.
Peace
