I have generally developed my own forms for the studio. Are there any books developed for standard forms that would make life easier in the studio and for the variety of topics encountered?

AM, thanks so much for the response to my last topic......"Family, what a pain"

I changed the topic because I thought my rant about my sister-in-law was just anger that I needed to vent. And I didn't see any responses to it, and felt the need to remove it. But now I see I'm not the only one that had a problem.

I always want to help folks, but there comes a time when family needs to understand the difference between a helping hand, favor, and plain taking advantage with someone elses time. Her personality has always been that way, and will never change.

Sorry for the topic change AM,and folks. I thought I was the ony one that had this type of family problem.

But please answer the new topic if you can....Trying to get back on topics of the business forum. \:\)

Jazzman,

I do not know of any book that would have all the studio forms needed to operate as a business. Joel Stoner has a great product in his Studio Suite software. As I would suggest for all studio forms they be in a relational database. I know his has client database, work orders, invoices, invoice summaries, scheduling, tape inventory, that are searchable by client, artist, producer...even song titles. Also Apogee puts out a similar product that includes some equipment documentation templates.

Are there any particular forms you are looking for?

I guess .......Release forms for music leaving the studio for production. Colaboration forms, work order forms, and the few that you mentioned.

Just looking for any good source for the real thing or some good examples.

Studio Business forms. I have no connection with the company, but I have a copy of these. They're not too bad at all. Oh, full disclosure - a friend of mine does their website.

Thanks for the plug Bill!

Expanding on what Bill said, Studio Suite is not really a "forms" program, but a database program that creates the forms you need based on the data you enter into the system. The great thing about using something like Studio Suite is the relational aspect of it. For example, if you look up a certain Client in the Contacts module, you can see and jump to every single Project, Session, Reel, Song, File, Invoice, Email or Letter that's "related" to them. This promotes an efficiency and professionalism that will save you hours of time and impress your clients at the same time.

Some people think that they're to small to need software like this, but I think that it's BECAUSE you're small, and DON'T have a staff of managers, bookers, receptionists, accountants, techs, engineers, etc that having all these (current and historical) details at your fingertips is so vital (and powerful).

You can download a free demo from the site, and of course, call 1-800-450-5740 with questions!

Also, if you use Microsoft Office, they offer free downloadable templates for invoices, calendars, etc.
