Hi guys,
we plan a small mini CD press of one of our projects..
Due to the fact that most of our Fan base located in the USA, I thought it will be better to manufacture and ship through the usa to save costs...
Our web provider has a site that can do the selling (generate around 1,000,000 hit per month).
And I'm sure I can find a company in the USA to press the CD's (through the EQ ads or something)

My questin : How can I make sure they don't cut me out of the loop.. We are registered with SABAM (the Belgian equvilent to ASCAP) and all song are published in house.
Should we acuire bar-codes for that - and if so how?

Any more ideas and help are welcome.

Thanks

Danny

Danny,

Try this..... RIAA It's the RIAA site and explains that while they don't issue the codes (there is a link to the company that does) they show the formats to be used.

Some of the pressing companies like
Diskmakers and others offer free bar coding.
Although you don't "own" the bar code, it provides a way to track everything.

Thanks guys...
I know Sabam and ASCAP are trying to work together but so far, we always get our publishing for stuff sold in America through our publishing company.
So - for this small release, should I and can I become a member of ASCAP as well?

Barcodes can be issued by a number of organistations, the main one being EAN (may be called something different now- but dealt with europe), which allocate barcodes to you for your products. Basically a barcode breaks down into several sections.
the first is a country code, then next a company code (you), and the last is a description of the product.
Many distributors will be able to offer you free barcodes, but more than liley their info will be included in the code, this is something you will have to ask them, and also find out who allocates them barcodes, and then you can possibly take a shortcut.

Wow, this is an old topic that came back to life.... 3 years ago.
funny thing, we only recently released this cd, self pressed and all.
So far, we simply selling it online in the state. Check it out here

The bands website

btw, obtaining a bar code was a simple task of paying the bar code company.
