Great to see this topic come on by!
I had a policy on my gear only (no liability)
in my old digs some years ago - after several
years of paying for it and seeing "no return"
as in no claims - I cancelled the policy....
The god Murphy did then rain down upon me
as the house my studio was in (friends place)
was robbed TWO WEEKS after I cancelled the
policy

Fortunately the characters neglected to check
out the basement and I lost nothing ( my friend
could not say the same  )

I haven't much worried about it as I work the over
night in my "dayjob" and my wife is a stay-at-home
mom so the house is literally never unattended
for more than a few hours (then theres vacations
) But this thread has brought the whole thing up in my mind again - I think I
will be checking out Musicpro as well!

I carry an extra rider policy on my music and recording gear. I have it written for "REPLACEMENT VALUE" I carry insurance through St. Paul, which offers both commercial and residential coverage. Excellent company to deal with if you ever need. Right now my policy is residential; I probably should inquire about converting it over to commercial before long.

This subject did however stimulate an interest to include Equipment Insurance Brokers on my web site. I created two new pages,

Recording Studio Insurance Brokers

and

Film Production Insurance Brokers

Some of these links have specific provisions of coverage outlined, if anyone is interested in pursuing the interest.

Hi pros, great discussion, lots of good info, I will take the dive in a few months with a converted-garage-studio so this something I will have to consider.

Musicpro is a horrid company.

I can't even get them to return a call about INCREASING my insurance with them. If they are this terrible about taking money from me how awfully bad would it be if I ever needed to file a claim with them.

I have a policy with them but feel completely uninsured.

I will tell everyone I know to avoid them like the plague.
