Hello Everyone, I have a chance to rent a LA-2A in an attempt to work on my "chops". This may seem like a very elementary question but... What is the best way to de-ess a vocal if I'm using this unit which has no "sidechain". Should I run the signal into a deep and narrow parametric and "excite" the offending "sss" frequency? Or use a separate compressor for the de-ess. I really would like to gain some experience with the LA, so any help would be wonderfull! Thanks! Keep up the excellent threads!! -Nicholas

I don't think that an LA 2A is a great choice for de-essing, as it is too slow...there are better choices, a devices that are designed specifically to do just that. LA-2's are can be great for overall vocal compression, guitars, horns, snare drums, etc. I certainly encourage you to experiment...you could try boosting some sharp 4-6k going in to see what happens, I don't think that it will give you the desired results. ed c
