Dear Ed,
I'm really interested in the Royer 121 ribbon mic. I've read alot of great things about it including your ringing endorsement. I'm primarily interested in using it for elec gtrs and accoustic instruments for my small home studio. My local music store usually lets me try gear out before I buy it but they don't stock the royer. My concern is that it's figure 8 pattern would pick up too much of the small(not so great sounding) room where I record. Any comment or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

i dont mean to bust a nut but the royer mic is incredible. i finally got one of my own the other day. i must say it is the FIRST mic i have used that makes my voice sound like it does to me in my head, not that do i really sound like that shit. and the figure 8 pattern is crazy. i was spinning around in my chair talking into the mic listening to the sound change. the sense of space is incredible. 5' from a wall i sounded huge, 25' the other direction was incredibly open. and damn if the factory smell isnt better than a new car small.
