I have always wondered how guys like Keith Emmerson or Jon Lord used to get that really thick distortion from their Leslie speakers. Man I LOVE that sound. Did the distortion come from the Hammond organ or was there an overdrive on the Leslie itself? Or was some type of distortion stompbox used? I don't play organ (or any keyboard for that matter) but I am dying to figure out how they did that.

Thanks
John

Jon also used a ring modular - that box you see on top of his B-3. You can hear it on Lazy and Space Truckin live, that come to mind.
