How did you get the drum sounds on the jan arden album you did? and how was it working with her? I was going to work on a remix with a guy for her but he decided that she was to much to deal with.

Hi Jonathan, On Jann's record we started out with most of the songs by building and customizing loops, and then overdubbed drums.....which is different than the other 3 albums that we have done together. In the past, we put a band together, went into the studio, and just cut the record. This one we did more piece by piece. The drummer, Greg Bisonet is a great musician and has a really good sounding kit. We cut drums in Studio A at The Village in L.A. a really cool sounding room. AT 25's on toms, AT35sh on snare, C-12's overhead, 421 and FET 47 on kick, a couple of M-50's for the room, and a bunch of EQ. The combo of the live drums and the loopdy loops worked out well, at least I thought....we'll see if the kids dig it. Yeah, there was some talk of doing some alternate dance type mixes. I usually prefer that somebody else does them, as it ain't exactly my area of expertise. I can see where she might have really strong opinions about how to and what to....but she is a great artist to work for, as she has a really clear vision of who she is, and what she's about. Her guitar player, Russell Broom, ended up doing some remixes, and I think he did a pretty good job. ed c

Hi Ed
I've been meaning to ask how you got those dreamy floating guitar sounds on Jann's "Living Under June" album.
I beleive the song I'm thinking of is "Insensitive". There's a nice clean guitar that goes crunchy and then back to clean or maybe it's two guitars.
But overall all the guitars seem to float around very nicely. Great work! Care to share any techniques.
One more question, if you don't mind. What was the microphone chain that you used on Jann for the song.
