What do you mean "lift ghost notes"? Could you be a little more specific?

high compression is only going to make the ghost snare notes louder.. I've gated the snare to prevent the ghost notes in the past which worked well.. Mind you, you can still compress the signal after the gate to get a decent snap.

hope this helps a bit?

Thanks for the replys...What I mean by "ghost notes" is the small, quiet sticking "stuff" in between the snare backbeats. I want to bring these to the front. I hope this makes a bit of sense...? Thanks for any help!

Oh? I thought when you mentionned "lift" you wanted to remove them.. sorry about that.

allot of compression should do the trick.

Fader automation and/or volume envelopes, if you have access to either of the tools.

On a DAW you can 'see' them and lift em, it's fun & makes the drummer very happy!

OK, now I know what you ae talking about. The grace notes between snare hits, or the sound of the snares rattling, etc. I go after these all the time, and the thing that works best for me is an LA-2A. It has a pretty slow attack and release, so it lets the initial transient through, and as it releases, it pulls up the level of the envelope. If you don't have access to an LA-2A, try some compression with a slow attack, and set the release time so the level comes up in time to bring up your "ghost notes". Let me know how it works out.
