For the 2nd. time this month I've got tapes from clients with no test tones. Just A stupid note (+6) as if I could get all the info I need from that.One of these clients even had splices one the 2"that just plain sucked. Brakes in the Timecode (the slave reel loved that).I think some people are just being slack.

When we were just dealing with 2" tape, you could just about see what you had....and it was easy to just roll to a spot to see what is there....plus at least a legend would be on the box. I just completed mixing a project that was on hard drives (off of the new Euphonix R-1), good luck determining what and where stuff is...there is no room for a detailed slate sheet on the drive....documentation is a real bitch sometimes, and there is currently no way that I know of to standardize documentation. Maybe the new Producers/Engineers Wing at NARAS can eventually come up with a standardized way to document......as if anyone would actually follow any guidelines.
