You guys make sure to say if you're coming with wife/hubby, boyfriend/girlfriend, mother/son, football buddy or such. Don't show up on a 25-seater with a trail of friends or relatives unless you've said it first. There is no problem as HOW MANY, I think the party can accomodate up to 50, but the kitchen needs to know at least the day before.

I would give: wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, childeren, a skip at this dinner.. Plenty of movies to go see in NYC. I am used to guys talking shop & ignoring their dates/wife etc, it stresses ME out while they do it. I try not to do it much myself.

Paying the bill.(s)
Separate bills is best, works out good for the waiting staff too - tip each time! Some folks may have to come and go at different times or dash off Some may eat little, some a lot Booze is a biggie, I don't drink and ain't paying for brandies etc I didn't order... Some might have to just drop in for coffee Jules
In the UK folks are a little inept with these matters, a nice party often turns sour come bill time when folks who just had a salad and a mineral water are 'expected' to chip in an equal share for folks pigging out...on three courses / brandies the lot. Then there is ALWAYS missing money in the pot.
In Berlin they are very hip with this 'no tears' method of individual bills.
Can we do this please?

No Julian, that's not possible. It's a prix-fixe dinner, it's 35 dollars apiece and that includes the drinks, it's a very good bargain for a gourmet dinner (not a huge amount of food, but a wide variety of regional specialties). We can't do individual bills for almost 30 people, the menu is all-set.

Fair enough I missed that, fine with me! I do feel you should be able to cope with the odd 'drop in' like a VIP engineer just swinging by for coffee, SOME flexibility at least must be a good thing...
If say Ed Chearney could only make it for coffee it would be good if he weren't 'banned' and told he couldn't come in... You know what I mean...
Personally I will plan to be there, hungry, on time, with the necessary cash and I appreciate the trouble folks are taking to organize it all. Thanks.
One last detail, background music,it will make listening to all the conversations hard and that would be a shame considering the distances some folks are traveling to be there...
I will back off now to remain a grateful participant. In case you were wondering why I am so fussed about detail, the first inaugural EQ Group get together (LA AES) was all MY idea, it was my nagging that got it started and the magazine continued with it. I'm proud of that fact. I look forward to this evening a great deal.
thanks,
Jules

The VIP can join the party for thirty-five bucks, or he can eat somewhere else (where he'll probably spen a lot more), then swing by after dinner and run his own tab. If he's a Very INTELLIGENT Person, he'll opt for plan A.

Dan, thanks for keeping track of the headcount. Since you’ve included me, I want to reiterate that I'm still undecided about whether or not I can afford to take the time to travel again so soon after having just taken a month off. Right now, I'm playing catch up; and I may not be able to know for sure about my plans until sometime in September.
However, if I make it to NYC for AES, you should count me in. I would love to meet all of you, and I would certainly enjoy a gourmet meal.
Originally posted by argomax: The dinner is gonna be top quality regional italian food, fixed menu (gotta make it easy for them too), but mind you, this is nothing like you had in your typical spaghetti & meatball type of dinner: this is REAL, modern italian cuisine.
Argomax, thanks so much for setting this up. I want to let you know though that I am a vegetarian. Usually, I have no trouble finding items I can eat at Italian restaurants. However, while I completely understand the need to have a fixed menu, it leaves me wondering if there will be something I can eat. Could you ask your brother if the meal he is planning would be suitable for a vegetarian?
BTW, I'm not one of those people who calls myself a vegetarian but eats chicken and fish. I eat no meat whatsoever. I do eat dairy, though. Even so, please don’t make any changes for me. I don’t even know for sure that I can attend, and I don’t believe that anyone else who is going is a vegetarian. I’m just looking for the 411 on the meat.
Thanks,
soapbox back from vacation

Soap, I am vegetarian too. In an italian restaurant, between veggies, cheeses and pastas, you won't go starving. Don't worry. I'll talk to my bro to increase the non-meat dishes.

Soap, et al,
Everyone who's expressed an interest in attending has been included in the working copy of the guest list. I'm sure that people's plans will change as the date draws near. I'd like to try to finalize the list about a week prior to AES, so please give me your final "go" or "no go" at that point.

argomax, that is very kind of you. I hope someday we’ll have a chance to meet.
Dan, I should certainly know whether I am going to be there by the time AES is a week away, so it won’t be a problem to be firm about my plans at that time.
Thanks again to both of you,
Geoff

Good evening Ladies & Germs,
I've asked Curve to manage the guest list for the next couple of weeks. I'm under the gun at work, and I won't be able to get on the net as often as I'd like. Please take good care of him. He's a great guy, a fellow Pennsylvanian, and he's doing me a really big favor by filling in on short notice.
I'll be back in touch well before AES. Looking forward to meeting each of you there.
Thanks, Dan

Hello Everyone !
I've been away from these forums for a while because I was working overseas, and I had limited internet access, but now I'm finally back in NYC, and I'd definitely like to attend this dinner, if it's ok...

And unless plans change I'll be attending with my significant other, who wouldn't allow me to have so much fun without her... sorry Jules but I promise you'll like her! So that makes 2 if you'll have us!

Priceline??? I thought they went under. What did they make you do - fly through Anchorage on Air Eskimo?
You'll have to check with the boss (Max) on the wife. Everyone's already agreed on the no-S.O. rule. Why not buy her a ticket to a show. She'll have more fun on Broadway than she will hanging out with us.
Let me know what Max decides.

Yeah, Kris, ya know dude, I was tempted to invite a honey I know in Brooklyn to the dinner, but I'm afraid she'll be bored to tears by all of the monotonous tech talk.
Dan, welcome back, bro! How was your vaca? By the way, that unit you donated? A friend who used to have one gave me 9 - NINE! - Roland sound libraries for it, for only $50! Strings Ensemble, Brass Section, Modern Sonics, Rock Drums, Dance...I have, like, 2000 or so sounds for that chumpy now. Sweeeeet! That piece has been gettin' a M.F. workout lately.
It's been "The Year Of The Donated Gear" around here lately. The Joe Meek, the ART pre, the Digi001...I'm going to have to apply for non-profit status if this keeps up.
Anyone got any gear they wanna unload?

Kris, don't worry! New York isn't the cesspool you see portrayed on TV. TV shows are written by morons from California who think a subway is a place to get a quick sandwich. She'll have a blast! Window shopping on fifth avenue. Restaurants everywhere. Hanging out in Times Square (with a zillion other tourists). Watching the lights come on from the top of the Empire State building. Going to a play. Checking out the new wax museum. MOMA. The Met. She's got about a million options, and then she can take s quick, safe taxi ride and meet you for coffee after the dinner, or you guys can go out clubbing together. This is Disneyland, Dude!
