I'd love to get some feedback on using a computer as a 2-track master recorder. Is anyone doing this? After numerous problems with my Masterlink, I think I'm ready to try something different. Any thoughts?

Many folks (including me) mixdown to 2 tracks in their DAW. I do this. I get 24 bit mixes of my Pro Tools sessions. I skip the Pro Tools 'bounce to disc' function as it has quality issues. Many folks do this.
If you can get a sound card that accepts SPDIF the you could 'capture' your (I presume) analog mix at 24 bit with one of the many excellent converters avaiable
Cranesong hedd
Apogee PSX 100
Apogee Rosetta
Lucid ?????
RME
There are many more...
The advantage for you is potential 24 bit (perhaps 96k depending on the card and converter) instant mastering editing copilation with out squinting into the masterlink....
bit late here now, perhaps someone else could finnish off!!!
But I say go for it!

I already mix down through the tc finalizer converters, so I can store 24/96. I'm just looking for the best computer program and tips to do what the Masterlink does only better (store the mixes, edit and compile them, burn them to CD's).

Right now I'm not getting 96k into the Mac. That's why I'm looking for tips from the folks who are. What programs and interfaces are everyone using to acheive this?
I don't even have a new Mac yet. Just the Masterlink. I love what the ML claims to be able to do, but find it unreliable overall. Plus, it seems using a computer for the same features would be better and clearer to deal with.

I've been mixing to Sonic Solutions on a Mac for some time, but you don't want to spend that kind of money.
A GREAT I/O card for the price is the Lynx Studio http://www.lynxstudio.com/lynxone.html with a retail price of $550, it includes drivers for PC and Macs so you can use almost ANY editing software with it, including ProTools Free!
The card is 24-bit 96k capable with AES or S/PDIF I/O as well as wordclock I/O, highly unusual for a card of this price.
We also have a copy of Peak http://www.bias-inc.com/ that works great as a two-track editor. It will read and write ANY file format, keeping your options to export files to Mac or PC.

I'm intersted to know if you use the midi port at all. Would I be able to use my system with my currenet mii setup.
Powermac runing VSY 4.1, Studio64 (oms midi)
At the moment the Studio 64 is conected to my mac via the modem port,
