Remember his "give away" contest / offer (whatever the PC term was decided to be)? Well, a couple of days ago, a box with a Proteus, manual and extra Proteus related book shows up on my doorstep.

I gotta say Dan South appears to be a quality guy. In the world today, there's not enough people of his caliber. Man, he's just *cool*.
(No, he didn't send me any gear, but I thought I should at least say something nice so he'll keep me in mind the next time he has a giveaway...  )

Aside from his big heart Dan South's classical compositions are nothing short of masterful. Just check out his Fugue in Dm(Russian Fugue) or his Trumpet Concerto .
I'll say it again folks, this guy is the 'real deal'. Here is a genuine and very special composition talent certainly deserving of wider recognition. In my entire musical journey so far, I can count one one hand the contemporary composers I've been fortunate enough to encounter on this level.
Dan please excuse me if I'm making you a little uncomfortable with all the accolades but I can't help it. Your music simply blows me away!

Dan, sorry bro, I never did find that patch.
Hey, guys, Dan gave me a Roland JD990 synthe module, and my tracks are phatter than ever now.
Dan, I sampled some bass sounds from the JD to my Korg E-Tribe•S, and sequenced them into some of the smokin'ist grooves that you can smell for miles. It's probably not what this unit was primarily intended for, but just about every patch, from the internal sounds to those on the expansion boards offer bass sounds - endless varieties of bass sounds - when those patches are played in the bass register. It is amazing, like over 700 different bass sounds, which I can sample and then step-sequence into basslines. I'm starting to think of it as a Bass Module. For the kind of music that I'm currently pioneering, this is not something to be taken lightly, because the bass is key for the grooves to work, and yet be diverse. Pretty f*ckin' cool, yo?

Thanks again, everybody! I'm glad that my little "prizes" have meant so much to you. As I said before, this whole thing was no big deal. I was no longer using this gear, but I didn't want it to go to waste. I feel honored that gear from my little studio is being used by such talented and ambitious artists. If you have a chance, please let me hear some of the projects that you're working on. It would mean a great deal to me.
