I found out that converting a CD track to audio using Wavelab, CDFS.DLL or
Audio Grabber brings in clipped peaks which sound distorted!

The distortion coming from the SW's outputs is caused by a bad file
convertion from CDA to WAV!
I converted the file using Wavelab and the special cdfs.dll, but both made a
clipped wav-file. I used to CD player to convert it, a Plextor 8 speed
writer and a Toshiba DVD, both with the clipped results. A friend of mine
did the same thing on his system, also using Wavelab, cdfs.dll and
Audiograbber. He's using a HP cd writer and a different Toshiba DVD. He got
the same results: a clipped file!
When I plug in my Technics CD player and record that track from the CD
analog, I don't see any clips, just a smooth wave!!!
My conclusion: fileconvertion from CDA to WAV goes wrong. There are
differences between both format and when you're converting something goes
wrong! So it's best when you want to convert CD tracks to wav, to use a
analog signal!!!

For me this is really major problem I found, because I always thought that
converting CDA to WAV would be a copy.

Extract audio from a CD, please tell me what is the best way to do it. I
think with a analog output from a CD player the sound will be best!

I really don't understand that when using an digital extraction with Wavelab
will sound so bad....

Marco,

Any software audio ripper including CDFS.sys and Audio Grabber is prone to errors, especially if the CD has been abused or if the drive wasn't desinged for ripping. Since you have a Plextor CD-R you might want to look into using the Plextor Manager software that's available from their website instead. I've had very good luck with there audio extraction, and if you look at professional stand-alone CD machines it's not uncommon to see a Plextor drive since they're so solid. CDR-Win does the best job at audio extraction as a stand-alone app that I've seen, so check it out at http://www.goldenhawk.com. Also, the CD-architect plug-in for Sound Forge also does CD-ripping nicely.

I don't know what your specific problem is, but I've had great success with "Exact Audio Copy," a freeware program that claims to be more accurate than any other CD ripper programs. You can download it at http://www.exactaudiocopy.de.

Marco,
I have been using audiograbber and soundforge
for quite sometime now and I have never had problems with clipped peaks. But then I normalize to 98%. Also I think that most probably it is a scratched or abused CD.
