My very first rock concert was Pink Floyd at the Atlanta/Fulton County Stadium in June of 1975. Top ticket price was $7.50, (their was no such thing as a convienience charge), the cool Dark side of the Moon T-shirts were $4 and the comic book program was only 25 cents.
Everything including parking was less than 15 bucks. Of course neither me or my friend were old enough to drive and didn't need to pay parking. (We were dropped off and picked up by his dad in the family van). But anyway.

Fast foward to August 2000.
The Who at Philips Arena - Two floor seats - $254 not including convienience charges, parking or any extras.

What Happened?

No s@#t - Steely Dan at Chastain for $100!!! And the seats were not that great. I think I payed abut $50 (scalped) a few years earlier for 12th row dead center at the Omni.

I guess these "old" guys are trying to get ready to retire

I reasoned that the shows are so complex these days - like a studio on stage really - the sound is so precise - maybe it costs alot more to do those. All those apogee converts and Sony 48-track machines Roger hauls around

I remember reading that the Floyd shows back then ( I saw 'em in 77 at the Omni for the 1st time) were so expensive to do, that they barely broke even or lost money.

Well I read something that a concert promoter wrote recently that said in the 70s bands toured to sell records. Tours frequently just broke even or lost money, but the tour promoted record sales. He said now they make records so they can tour.

Got to see YES in '71 at a local (Catholic)high school gymnasium for $3.00. Popcorn was .10 and a soda was .15.

Saw Yes day before yesterday! Paid $45 bucks to a scalper for a fourth row center seat (Row D Seat 10) My ninth and best Yes concert! It was the most expensive concert ticket I have ever bought in my life but it was WELL worth it only because I got to see "The Gates of Delirium" live and up close while surrounded by a bunch of beautiful gray haired groupies (including Alan White's wife) who knew every word.

Problem is, I'm sure most of the people behind me paid a lot more than I did. I got lucky and left my binoculars in the car!
