so what did everyone think of the tangerine dream article in the latest EQ? slammin MIDI screamin for tighter control. i found the article very interesting but some of what they were talking about i just cant imagine what in the world they are alluding towards. and all these virtual synths and their GUI, in quite an agreement there. some of the plugins lately are trying to look like the real deal too. i dont think a lot of the developers are heading in the right direction lately either, glad they seem to be on the case.

Sadly. midi seems to be a case of "if it ain't broke...". In this day and age, 32kbps is sad indeed. On the other hand, it still works, and anything new would have to be backwardly compatible, or totally new. Seems like some of the makers of midi interfaces are trying to improve timing accurcay (Emagic, Steinberg), but they seem to be locked inot "proprietary to our software" solutions. Sigh.....

thats what im talking about. you cant get more broke than midi. compared to everything else today, midi makes windoze look like a PERfect OS. i tend to struggle with all my ideas with midi because of its severe limitations. tons of what i want to do and cant consistantly isnt because im at fault but midi is. i would love for my drum triggers to line up with the acoustic tracks but its not like i can even nudge them all to line them up. you have to do each one and then hope its right on playback [which it never is]. the programs capability is there but the connection to the devices isnt. MOTU claims 1/3ms accuracy or something like that but who cares if all they are talking about is to the network midi device. timing is very off after that, especially when info gets dense. USB seems like the natural choice for progression but no one seems to be working on it right now or implementing it. and you could always have backward compatibility with a midi interface off a usb line.

OK, I read it - what the hell are they up to? I can't guess - something too far out that it might scare their fans? I say bring it on - their fans could probably use a little rush about now I could!
