I'm in a classic rock cover band. We get a lot of work around town but we'd like to expand into some of the better venues and are planning to make a demo. I wouldf like to get as much input on this as possible from those of you who have been through this and discovered what really works.

Should we go into a studio or record a live gig? Shoudl we include short clips or full-length songs?

Thanks so much!

Most of the booking agents I've talked to in the past couple of years are trying to get the bands to do a video rather than a more traditional audio demo - especially for the higher-paying places, although a decently-produced CD will get you in the door in some cases. The video can be a budget two-camera demo (I suppose even a one-camera shoot would work).

I would suggest talking to one of the agents that books the type of clubs you want to play (or the club owner/manager) and see what they feel would be best.
