Hey there. I'm really interested in helping out the cause and starting work on a potential song 3 for the Face of Friendship thing. I've been dormant for a while but am ready to jump in and help. I can do guitars and come up with ideas for the song as a whole. Whatever is needed I'll do my best to help out with.

John

Hey John - welcome back!

Sounds great - do you mind if we keep all song 3 discussion within this thread until Song 2 is on the web, just for everyone's (ok maybe just me) sanity?

Again - good to hear from you again

That's not a bad idea at all.

I've been looking at some pictures and reading some articles and a few thing popped into my head. Lyrics aren't my specialty but here is what I wrote. Any help is extremely helpful.

They need us more than ever
Saying something clever about
The things in the world today
Is so much harder than it used to be.

I'm in!! I only play guitars too tho and am a lot less talented than many here, but I'm still here to help. I could possibly try and write some lyrics too...

How does this exactly work, I saw the thread on how to submit tracks, does everyone submit something they think sounds good within a basic framework then some poor soul has to make it into a cohesive whole??

Some more lyrical idea...

Hearts and homes to be rebuilt, more
blood, sweat, and tears after blood already spilt.
Those not there must show they appreciate,
who knows when they might face a similar fate?

Go for it! There's no reason two groups can't work in parallel...we'll get twice as much material done in the same amount of time. (This is how things like the so-called "mythical man-month" get started in the business world...these parallel efforts only work if the two efforts don't have dependencies on each other. Two seperate songs don't have any inter-dependencies, so that'll work!) Everyone will just have to be discplined about posting in the right thread. I'd say 2-3 groups working in parallel is do-able with discipline, more than that tends to become unmanageable.

How's this, worth carrying on??

10,000 tiny points of light,
little fingers holding tight,
too young to understand
why everything they had,
everything they knew no longer stands

The tears on her cheek,
the havoc that's been wreaked,
the joy in her face that has been washed away...

Yeah, and something about bringing back the joy, like "we are here to help wash away the pain."

Lots of good ideas. I don't care what gets used of mine, personally. I just want to see this come to fruition.

Ego's checked!!!

How's this going? I've put a very loose structure to it, but I don't really have any idea for a tune so if this even is suitable it'll probably need some changing. I'll try to work out different words for the chorus that could be used as an outro using your idea of washing away the pain....

Verse 1
The children that didn't share,
the adults angry cares,
life is a happy game from your Mother's embrace,
The sea has always been,
a friend to you and me,
nothing can hurt you from your Fathers arms....

Verse 2
10,000 tiny points of light,
little fingers holding tight,
too young to understand
why everything they had,
everything they knew no longer stands,
what was once a friend,
hsa now brought a bitter end,
and taken away the arms that kept you safe...

Chorus
The tears on her cheek,
the havoc that's been wreaked,
the joy in her face that has been washed away,
lost her home,
lost her school,
nowhere else to play,
the land that was so green,
golden beaches, the homes we need,
now it's all turned grey...

Bridge / Verse 3
I could never take the place
of the ones you loved,
but if you let me in I'll give you my shelter,
Let me bear you home,
let me share the pain,
and together we can recover,
and build what will come after...

Hey, I'd like to pitch in some music. Even if it's one note or chord. No ego here. \:\)

This is where I step in and say that the deadline for Song 3 will have to be by next week Sunday so you all have a time frame to work on and also you need to sort out whos going to do the mixing/mastering between you. Is that ok as song 2 is due this weekend or begining of next week.

I'm up for it, but I think we could use some more volunteers, we're all guitarists so far aren't we??

Guitar is my forté, however, I can play bass and program drums in a pinch. Vocals are doable, but it would be nice to get real "pros" on this one. \:\)

Here's the list so far based on my limited insight. These are based on what people have said they can do. We'll need to hash out the details and that can be done via PM or something.

Jlampson: Guitar, MIDI Drums (if necessary)

Base: Guitar

Dave Sisk: Bass ("based" on the picture).

Base: Lyrics. Do you sing or play any other instruments?

Ed Lee: Keyboards, and how. Play that G#dim7add9!

Did I cover everybody and their potential roles?

John

Thanks for the welcome. Hahaha, that would be cool! \:\)

I did mean help write the music. I think we have enough lyricists here to deal with that side.

Just guitars I'm afraid and I wouldn't ever want to inflict my voice on anyone...!

Ed, don't worry about that, just jump in and add whatever you can

Well we have lots of bassplayers here so maybe we can find one?
I would say Fil but hes on No2 at the moment and we want as many people contributing as possible.
Maybe an appeal on Lodown would help if someone wants to put it up.

I think you're overestimating my abilities a tad \:D

Anyway, contact by PM or whatever me any details. I'm ready to contribute.

Folks, I thank you, but I'm going to sit out on this one. I would like to give other folks a chance to contribute (plus I'll be out of town all next week, so logistically I can't contribute). Go to the Lowdown forum and ping Wraub...he was looking to contribute (and I just turned him on the free recording software someone posted a link to). Also ping Force...he sent some tracks in for "Tears We Share"....

Normally I would add a few things to a song or build it up a little, and I've done that here, but here is the rough for what I came up with. It's a bit darker than I had hoped for, actually, but variety is sometimes good. I can always use this for something else. Anyway, here is the instrumentation. I hired a pro drummer and bass combo for this one.

Guys

I'm not going to be available this weekend I'm afraid, given how soon this needs to be done it would probably be better if someone else took guitars on this one. Really sorry, hopefully I can still help out on a future one tho.

I'll try to flesh out the lyrics I've already posted at work today and I'll post on the bass & drums forums and try to get some more people on board for you.

John - I like the tune, the distorted parts didn't quite fit right to me tho, but as it is a rough demo that was probably just the type of distortion sounding out of place. Great start tho

Excellent, thanks Alex

Addition to what I posted earlier, possibly a variation for a final chorus:

The tears on her cheek,
The havoc that's been wreaked,
but we'll wash away the pain,
though the future looks bleak,
with one voice we'll speak,
and build it all again...

Base has co-ersed me (by twisting my rubber arm \:D ) to put my name in for mixing this one. For future reference, it'd be perfect if the audio could be in 24 BIT/48KHz WAV......

Now...go create!!

Cheers!

Great stuff Spencer
I think we need someone to mix and master this one.
You already know we have set a target for next week Sunday right?

What? To get the tracks to me? Or, to have it 100% completed?

Cheers!
