Hi, here's one that's been nagging me for a while...

I have a Vox V847 wah-wah pedal, however, I want to put in a 9v input so that I can power it with the rest of my pedals.

Could anyone help by perhaps directing me in the way of what I need and how to go about sorting it for as little money as possible (it's not easy being a student with a hobby like this!)

Cheers!

Alex

Hi Alex,

Take the bottom off the pedal and find the battery connection; a red and a black wire. Find a good location and CAREFULLY drill a hole in the side to accept a standard T/S 1/4" chassis jack. The jack will mount right to the pedal via the hole. Make a connection from the black wire (-) to the jack's ground lug. Connect from the red wire (+) to the tip lug. You can then use a standard(shielded)guitar wire with the appropriate plug on the supply end to go from the power supply to the pedal. You must use a shielded wire, or you'll pick up a lot a noise.. and probably a few trucker's CD calls. It's an easy do, and can save a bundle on batteries. I believe the pedal's input jack disconnects the battery when the guitar's input cable is removed, but this shouldn't affect the modification when you're all pluggrd in. Should cost under $3, not including the supply wire.

Good luck, Paul

Fantastic! Cheers man! I asked Vox themselves and they tried to palm me off with some 9v transformer costing £30! One question: if I take a wire from the existing battery connection (effectively leaving that alone - just extending) to the 9v input, will that allow me to still use batteries for back-up?

Hey Alex,

Yep! Just 'make sure' the supply is 9VDC and NOT 9VAC. That would be a disaster. Also, the battery MUST be removed when using the EX-power, otherwise it (the battery) could explode. Installing a selector switch on the pedal is a good idea to avoid that mistake. Should have mentioned that earlier. Remember to use a shielded wire as the interconnect from supply to pedal.

Best, Paul

Awesome, think i will stick a selector switch in there too, just for good measure! As for the shielded wiring, i'm gonna be using a multi supply (DC Brick styly), so that should be okay! Thanks for all the help! Much appreciated!
