hi,
i was wondering if someone could enlighten me on the subject of purchasing a good recording guitar amp.
we have been using a 80 watt marshall valvestate in the studio.its got a good sound for jamming but just doesnt quite cut it for recording.
the problem is that there is not much variation in sound. we play prtty heavy rock and its perfect but our other main dilemma is that we want to use an amp for recording ad music as well as we are a post audio production studio.
we have also tried using a laney line 6 axa2 212 with digital effects bulit in but this amp is frought with technical probs. can anyone help us????

Have you considered a 'modeling' amp or preamp? Filling different situations is where they shine. They're not quite the real thing, but you must weigh the cost of buying/maintaining an arsenal of amps vs. a single unit. Try the Line-6 amps and preamps. Subjective opinions usually don't cut it. You have to audition the amp personally. You really should re-post in the 'Guitar Forum' at this web site. Those guys LIVE for this type of question! \:D

thanks paully,
i will try the guitar forum.
yes we have thought of using a line 6 pod or someting along those lines. we have pro tools hd for post effects but i failed to add that we want this amp for live work as well .
if you noticed,we did try the line 6 modelling amp but i think they (modelling amps) are a little delicate and prone to more probs with shifting them about.
anyway i just wanted a general round-up of good reliable and semi-robust amps.
since my first posting we have put the marshall in for repair so are hoping to hear the verdict next week.
thanks a heap

Hey Carsmash,

You've got me a little confused. Laney is not Line 6. Two different companies, neither of which list that model amp.

http://www.line6.com/products/amplifiers/

FWIW, I've used a Pod Pro pre along with a Crown DC150 amp and a couple of 12" speakers for years. This setup covers ALL situations/sounds, and I've never had a 'road related' problem with the Pod. It skips happily from studio to live gig. \:D The modeling amps might be a different story. Mabee someone at the Guitar Forum can get you closer to what you need. Good luck.

Best, Paul
