Hi, I have had my Ibanez SZ320 (not much to look at but it plays well) for about 3 years now, and recently the saddle screws have decided to start turning themselves loose during playing. I've already lost one screw to this misfortune and others are desperately trying to go look for it; does anyone have any ideas of how i can stop this happening without losing the option of setting the intonation?
Thanks, Alex.

Try a small drop of Loctite 243, It stops bolts unthreading from vibration, but you can still undo them with an Allen Key or Screwdriver, you can get it from Halfords.

Yeah, thanks, I did think of that, but I'd rather not use loctite if possible. However, if all else fails, I think it'll have to be that option.
Cheers!
Alex.

Try clear nail varnish, Alex.

Hey man, I had the same problem with the same exact guitar once. I was changing my strings and that saddle screw just POPPED right outa there, Lost it. My answer? Get new screws. I get a set from a buddy of mine that were longer that usual, And that fixed the Whole Shabag.

Excellent, cheers guys! I tried the loctite and nail varnish, but when it came to adjusting for intonation they just loosemed and gradually rattled themselves out again! I went for a new set of screws in the end!

The help is much appreciated!

Hahaha, yeah, tone-pot is going on me too, and the pickup surrounds have tarnished pink!! But they're easily replaceable! Funny thing is, that I'm a blues-er not a thrasher, but for some reason I seem to like the slightly shorter scale.

Anyway, thanks, and good luck in the future.

Alex,

For what it's worth, the intonation should be set when you first get the guitar. Loose screw fixes are OK, but if you use the same brand/set of strings all the time, you shouldn't have to mess with those screws. Intonation changes are a sure sign that the string(s) need replacing, not adjusting. Gibson's Tune-a-matics use a retaining wire to keep the parts from falling out. Might be an option if one matches up to your git. A regular old B or E string can also be fitted in to retain stuff.

Best, Paul

Thanks, it's sorted now! I know that I shouldn't have to set the intonation much, but I've had the guitar a few years and fret-wear is taking its toll! I did think about a tune-o-matic but it wouldn't fit in the place of the Gibraltar III, plus it's through-body strung. I have been switching between D'Addario EXL110s and Elixir Lights, trying to see which I prefer, but I think I'm set on D'Addarios now!

Thanks for the ideas though!

Alex
