I have recently sent the following email to Roland, complaining of their shortcomings with the memory of this device. As I explain in the email, our band was relying heavily on using it in live performances, which their advertising indicated was do-able. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
I have a feeling that you may have seen other questions similar to the one I'm about to ask. I have recently purchased the DR-880 with high hopes of using it as a live on stage accompanyment device. All of the literature, along with the online demos, indicate that this machine can handle up to 100 songs for onstage performances. Although it is tedious, I have found that the drums/bass tracks are acceptional quality, however, I only have about 16 patterns (5 saved as songs) with anywhere from 100 to 147 measures and I'm getting the message "Memory Full". I have been buying Roland/Boss products for years and have been most pleased with their quality. I work in the computer field and have a feel for how inexpensive it is to add memory, and this appears to be a hugh shortchange for the consumer, that Roland has overlooked. Please help me understand what the problem is here, although this product is not outragiously expensive, to the average worker, $500 is a considerable amount of money by todays standards. Everything that Roland mentions, 500 patterns per song, 50,000 patterns total, and 100 user songs does not appear to be what this machine can do. Is there anything that can be done to remedy this lack of memory in this machine, we have spent a good amount of quality time in high hopes of using it in a live performances.
