I am wondering whether it is alright to mike a snare drum from the bottom. Also has anyone got any opinions of the Quality and performance differences between Beyer Dynamic and Shure Mics. Sound diff also

Absolutely not. There's a federal law against bottom micing a snare. Uhhh.. you know I'm kidding, right?
You didn't explain your whole micing setup, but if you have other mics up top, which also pick up some of the snare, watch out for phase cancellation (of the snare). A flip of the channel polarity switch is the quick cure. Also watch out for noisy hardware on the underside of the snare. That's where the squeeks and rattles live.
Beyer vs. Shure, again, be more specific. In general, IMO, Shure mics are the go-to mics for most folks. Try a Shure 57 on the bottom of that snare. Beyer also makes good stuff, especially vocal mics.
Best, Paul

Okay just to clarify things. Our setup is as follows 1 SM57 between the two Toms and 1 on top of the snare. We are also using an ordinary Vocal mic on the kick (cost was an issue and we had a spare) The kick doesn't sound good and so am looking to purchase a Beyer Dynamic M88TG. For The Toms possibly looking at Opus 88's. Snare - Opus 87, O/H'S & Hi hats: Opus 53 (all Beyer Dynamic) At the moment our mike setup is rather small but as we are getting a Drum Screen we will need to finish miking the kit. Am also Looking for feedback from people who have had a chance to listen to the Beyer gear and have heard how it performs.

Sorry, can't help with the Beyer stuff for drum application. AFIK, it's just not a widely used choice.
You might look at packaged kits. I couldn't find a Beyer kit, however these manufacturers know how to select the right mics. Otherwise, look at the Sennheiser PG52 or the Beta 52 for the kick. Here are some kit ideas.
Samson: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/search.php?s=microphone+kit&tt=1&go=Go%21 Audix: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DP6Audix/ AKG: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DrumPack/
A friend of mine has the AKG kit on his rock set, and it sounds / records really good.
Mabee someone else will pick up on this thread. You might try re-posting at a different site... one with a dedicated drum forum. As you can tell, there's not much traffic on the 'tech' forum.
Good luck, Paul

Hi Danny, the Beyer M88TG(TourGroup) is an excellent kick drum mic. The orignal M88 sounded great on kick drums and bass amps but not for too long because it's diaphram would weaken and get blown out. Also, they could not handle being dropped. The TG is completely redesigned, super-rugged and can handle any "road" abuse. On top of that, it can take high SPL's for extended priods of time unlike it's predecessor... Hope that helps.
