I use a Yamaha Motif keyboard with a Crate Kx50 amp. I use a Kustom 7 channel PA I think it is 100 watts. I have a Tascam d1000 mixer and 2 jbl speakers 15". I play some midi tracks out of a laptop into the keyboard. Out of the keyboard into the mixer and another line into the Crate. The crate sound is much clearer and realistic then the PA. I tried all different eq setting on the mixer and the pa but nothing really helps. Is it the pa itself, it is a pretty cheap one. Or is there eq setting that are standard for midi and keyboard?
Please help

Hi RR.. welcome aboard!

A couple of thoughts.

1) midi has nothing to do with the sound. Not a cause for concern.

2) The 'recommended' EQ if flat. Good sounds/samples really don't need change, except to make up for deficiencies in other equipment.

3) IMHO, Kustom never built good sounding stuff. The fact that you sound better through a Crate just exemplifies this. About the best you could do is A)-Upgrade the Kustom's speakers or get a better system, or B)-Add something like a 31 band graphic EQ between the keyboard and the PA. That'll give you a better chance at modifying the tone into something acceptable. They're pretty cheap, so you might try that first. It won't cure mudiness. That's the Kustom's problem.

Good luck, Paul
