okay, well hi all, basically im a complete newbie, ive got a g4 mac aswell as my own lil modded pc. I want to be able to run a mixer and digital recorder through the mac so i can put the tracks directly onto the mac for editeing, any sugesstions for porgrams and how to do this? im currently getting money to buy a mixer and digital recorder, ive got my eyes on a yamaha MG16/4 but have no ideas for the recorder or can i use the mac to record?

any help would be great, dont mind if u point out if this is stupid, thanxs all

First you should decide which operating system
(Mac or PC) that you prefer. Peripheral equipment can tend to be very platform-specific. Then shop around for easy to use, less expensive audio recording software. Check your Mac. Some of the newer ones come with "Garageband" as part of the goodie bag. Slimmed down versions of Pro Tools are also fairly user friendly. You'll need an AD/DA interface(an audio card) to get your music converted into digital form, then into and out of the computer. These range anywhere from 2 inputs to 24, depending on how many tracks you'll be recording at one time. You'll also need as much RAM as your computer will accept. Those are the 3 basics.
