I currently own a Boss GT3 guitar multi-effects pedal and after some tweaking (read *loads* of tweaking) I have a few guitar patches that I regularly use.

The thing is though, that I play mostly cover songs so I'm looking to get the original guitar tones to sound as much as possibly like the original song.

I've been looking at the Line 6 POD and I'm impressed by the amount of patches available for it. I know that the POD is for studio use but does anyone have any experience of gigging with it?

Is it worth trading in my GT-3 for a POD?

Read the above article from EQ, May 1999. The "Pod" is designed to simulate amps. So, your application would be perfect for it. Since the May '99 article, both the Pod & Bass Pod now come in a rack version for about $500 (the smaller unit is about $360). It is well worth the added features.

Hope this helps! And, if anyone knows of a good competitor...

Before you buy a POD (which are cool BTW), look at a J-station. (www.johnson-amp.com). They are going for around $150 on-line. While the POD and J-station are fairly comparable in most respects, the price alone makes it worth a look. I bought mine when it was the same price as the POD, and have never regretted it.

I too play in a cover band and was looking for something to get my tones as close as possible. I primarily play a Marshall sim or a Boogie sim. I also use a Fender Twin sim for some bluesy stuff. The Windows editor/librarian is excellant.

There are a few places on the Internet for J-station patches...post if you are interested.

p.s. Digitech is doing some cool things in the amp modeling area. Check out their GNX stuff (www.digitech.com)

Greed2000, I checked out the Johsnon link. Really good demo.

I found this link to where to buy for $150 (one of many)...
