I'm an acoustic and an electric guitarist, and I play solo as well as with a duo. I'm looking for a floor-based multi-effects unit that for both my Ovation and my Strat. I play mostly rock, folk-rock, and progressive music, so I need a wide array of tones that are good for live performance. Most of my songs are built around an acoustic guitar sound, so I would like to find something that is "acoustuc friendy". I also have my own home studio, so I'm looking for something that could be used for recording.

I have set a budget of approx. $300, and have been researching the following units:

Boss ME-33
Roland GT3
Digitech RP2000
Digitech RP300

I considered ZOOM products, but only for a few moments. Their reviews on the web were terrible, and I've had zoisy pedals from them before. I'm really looking for flexibility, and I would even consider using my Strat with an acoustic guitar modeling patch if it sounded good enough.

Post here, or for further correspondence, visit me at http://www.mindspeak.com

Does anyone out there have recommendations based on the info I've presented?

I play all of my guitars (Ovation, Strat, Ibanez Les Paul) through my J-station and it sounds great. Obviuosly you have to tweak things a bit for the individual guitars, but the unit is extremely versatile. Effects sound good and are extremely adjustable. And it can be had for around $150 bucks.

Johnson

http://www.johnson-amp.com

I forgot to mention, that the J-station requires an optional foot controller for live use. I believe it can use the "J3" in addition to the one that I use "J8". Info on both is at the web site.

BTW, the J-station has a model of the Parker guitar called "Boat Back". It does a good job of replicating Parker's piezo acoustic pickup sound. They also have a "flat top" model, although I haven't spent much time using it.

Thanks. That looks like an impressive unit. I'll try to check one out at a local store. So far though, I think I want to stick with an all-in-one unit. I've also never heard of Johnson, and I'm alsways weiry of new brands. But their web site is better than some of the big-wigs, so who knows.

Be sure to check out Digitech's new GNX series of floor modeler/processors. Digitech and Johnson are both owned by Harmon International, so much of the technology is shared by both companies. More capabilities then the RP series....along with the Windows/Mac editor and patch librarian.
