I would like some tips on the correct way to use a soldering gun. I can usually get the job done, but it sure doesn't look pretty. For example, when soldering a wire to a connector, or connecting two wires, what is the correct technique?

The wire that you are joining needs to get hot enough to melt the solder. You do NOT melt the solder and try to run it onto the joint you are making. The easiest way to do it properly is to hold the soldering iron on the OPPOSITE side of the wire that you are touching the solder to. Once the wire is hot enough to make a good joint the solder will melt and run right into the wire, towards the hot point of the soldering iron.
