I played a live outside gig this last weekend on which I shared The Drums with the opening band (To save setup time). Their drummer had triggered his drums using a DM5. The front sounded pretty darn good but I felt limited on my snare work & sound. I am thinking of getting one for myself. I am looking for any comments on the use and playing thru a DM5 either Pro or Con.

I have been using the Alesis D4 for 4 years now. It is GREAT on stage. Yes you do have to give up some of the snare sensitivity... but they are dancing not listening for ghost notes right?... I build my own triggers, what do you use? This unit has save me TONS of setup time over the last few years. I am gonna upgrade to the DM5 or DMpro this fall. Any questions e-mail me if you like...I have had tons of stage experience with this unit.

i got one and use it ALL the time. i use the dDrum triggers. smacks with the stick wont bother them and they are real easy to put on and take off.

snare isnt the greatest if you roll alot but for emphasis, its good. i use the kick more than anything, toms sounds are so so.

I use it with real drums triggering and i blen the two. but have to put the trigger in protools and line the trigger up I think that there is a 10ms dly from the org drum hit to when the trigger hits. but I love this thing get the pro its great I hear I just have the dm5lall the best

Although I have not used the DM5 or DMPRO, I also have used a D4 for about 5 years now, with good results if you realize it's limitations. Alesis products (i.e. D4) are an expirimentors dream come true - I internally mic the toms to trigger the D4... a little tweaking and the D4 will track about anything. From what I've read, the DMPRO has a lot to offer such as 6 note stacking etc.. Worth checking out.

Has anyone heard of a Roland TD-10 (V-Drum) being used for this purpose? We have a V-Drum Pro kit that we dont use, and a DW kit that I am thinking of triggering for blending. I know it will work, but any comments are welcome... this is a new area for me.
