Really:first learn to write/play really good-gain the respect of your peers-do lots of free or low-budget jobs for many years-develope a huge library of great sounding track[in the hopes somebody with money might actually hear it]-and in the meantime keep an amazing attitude.
So you see it's not really about competition at all.
