Hello all...I'm brand spanking new to this forum and like what I see so far. (I've been spending the better part of my evening poking around to see content...) I posted this on another forum and saw this one...maybe more relevant.

I have a question regarding a recording I'm currently working on:

I have an original composition I'm working on with a "political" message. As part of this song I have created an elaborate introduction that sets the tone and a theme leading up to the song. In this intro I've always envisioned using samples of TV news clips (media coverage) along with clips of our famous president's speeches over the last six months. I have taped all the material over the last 6-months off the TV, I've went back and timed out the "quotes" and sections I want and I've even sampled everything I want to use. Each sample ranges from 3-15 sec long. I'm ready to incorporate all this into my "theme" music and then it dawns on me....am I violating any copyrights here since my samples are actual quotes from NBC news coverage and our fearless leader? If so, how does one go about obtaining permission to use samples of media news coverage and speeches? OR, isn't there a portion of the copyright law regarding the free use of certain types of material?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated....
