I've been listening to a lot of "Ordinary Boys" of late. Sort of Maddness meets ...I don't know what. At any rate very good bass lines, ska type, pop songs. They have a number 1 in the UK with the song "Boys Will Be Boys". I think the entire CD is very well done and has 10 awesome tracks.

No, you're not the only one. Did you hear of all the extra publicity the singer garnered via a spot of reality TV?

I listen to E.L.O all the time. The Beatle-y stuff and their disco stuff.
I loooved them when I was just a little boy. So much so, that my Dad took me to see them when I was like, 7 years old, at MSG.

To this day, when people hear me listening to them in the car or whatever....they always say, "what in the hell are you listening to, dude?!"

I've NEVER met someone who said "Oh, ELO? I love these guys!"

Tucker, ELO = Electric Light Orchestra?

I am a Heepfan, and to this day not a lot of people in my direct environment share my enthusiasm ...

Except my dad, who is the culprit \:\) Which is cool, we always go to concerts together, and even played in the same band for a while.

I love the music of Ivan Lins, an influential figure on the Brazilian MPB scene since the '70s. He's among my favorite singer/songwriters and I might have all his CDs that are available in the US (plus a couple of imports). I saw him play the NYC Blue Note many years ago (he plays there maybe once every 18 months).

You know what though david Uriah Heep=John Wetton=Cool ...so you're in the clear ;\)

Right now I'm Enjoying stealing wheel, and they're not super recongized, though most people recognize one song of theirs pretty easily. The catch is nobody can link the band and the artist to easily. As a test, without internet resources does anybody know the one most recognizable song of theirs, famously featured in a movie about colors ;\)

Half the music I have, most people I hang out with look at with a confused look on their face and say huh? But much of that music is pretty well known on forums and with open minded musicians, so I'm ok there.

Did you mean Stealer's Wheel? "Stuck In the Middle with You"? With Gerry ("Baker Street" "Right Down the Line") Rafferty?

Plenty of musicians listen to The Postal Service. I have yet to find anyone older than 20 that is not a musician that listens to The Postal Service. At least not in my world, which I thought was relatively hip.

However, I'll concede. I replace The Postal Service with:

St. Germain

Kooky, Matisyahu is definitely VERY big now....he's got some video's on mtv and radio airplay. Most of my friend's dig him.

Maury, Most of my friends are under 20 and non musicians and i could easily name 20 people that like the postal service.

Mark, I did mean stealers wheel.........blame it on a lack of caffeine.

...for myself...
The Pernice Brothers
Spain...though they are pretty well known in the right group or demographic....

To be honest though, and as I've stated earlier.....most of my friend's couldn't recognize half my collection, you wall probably would...not that you're not my friends too, but you know ;\)

ELO - A main staple of mine.
Rollins Band - Personally, I really like "Come in and burn", but "The end of silence" is really cool.

Other weird stuff I listen to...
Super Furry Animals
PJ Harvey
Sigur Ros
Aimee Mann
Failure
The Cardigans
Mr. Bungle
Firewater
Fun Lovin' Criminals
The Grays
Jason Falkner
Rancid
Sloan
Supergrass
Tom Waits

....hmmm, how far should I really dig into my iTunes?

failure is one of my favorites. but i know they were very influential on a lot of musicians, myself included. i also enjoy sigur ros. but most people out on the street don't know either of those bands. but they're both really good.

i guess it depends on your context. i know that most of what i listen to is relatively obscure to your average person, but then the guys in my band and a bunch of other music fans i know listen to stuff that i've never heard of and have no access to.

I still listen to southern rock (aka bluegrass on amphetamines) like Skynyrd, Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet, Outlaws, and .38 Special. Throw in some Eagles (Timothy B. is baaaad) and some old school Petra........ man I'm old!

Nope!! I've a stack of that stuff & listen to it often, too!!

But I still 'timeslip' and put on Kiki Dee 'I Got the Music In Me' album when I'm feeling a bit indego, or 'Book of Invasions' by Horselips when I'm in a Gung Ho mentality!!

I have yet to meet anyone else who listens to Sergey Kuryokhin:

His solo piano compositions are like a stream-of-consciousness, ADD digest of every musical style on the planet culled together in a single outburst. Very bizarre. Very cool.

I'm a big prog rock fan, my favorite of which is old Genesis before the departure of Steve Hackett. I can't find too many people who are even aware that there is a pre-80's Genesis or that it used to be led by Peter Gabriel up until the mid 70's.

Ok, I'll take a shot at it:

Sigur Ros (waves to Nick)
Tom Waits (still waving)
The Mars Volta
Nine Inch Nails
Bright Eyes
Live
Kaizer's Orchestra
Eivør Pálsdóttir

Most of it is mostly because I don't live in my motherland, so people here just haven't been subjected to THE FORCE yet..

I just saw them live last Thursday! Most amazing live show I've ever seen during my time here on earth. The friend I brought, totally new to the band, was moved to tears by a few of the songs.

I think I might be able to win at this one. I got hooked on a trance/ambient music show when I was in college. I ended up doing a lot of work for the station and co-hosted and subhosted for the program from time to time, as well as for the Celtic music show that was on prior to the trance/ambient show. I really got into artists like A Produce, Robert Rich, Coyote Oldman, Vidna Obmana, etc. I don't listed to the stuff ona regular basis, but it is nice to pop in every once-in-a-while.

Col. Bruce Hampton & the Aquarium Rescue Unit. And it has to include Col. Bruce. While still musically excellent, the group didn't have the same personality after his departure.

Gregorian chants.
