Oh goodness! Yeah, I remember seeing those advertized in GuitarPlayer Mag. I think it was in the very early 80's. I've never heard what one sounded like though.

$1000!? HAH!

Reminds me of those old DIY kits from the Lafayette Electronics catalogs back in the 60s. (LE was an East-Coast version of Radio Shack.) Also reminds me of the old Altair Electronics catalogs that offered a DIY computer back in the pre-IBM PC era.

I haven't checked it out yet, I just saw it on the web page. It looks good, but my money would probably go somewhere else if I had a spare grand laying around.

Not necessarily on eBay, but found this interesting.

At soundwear.com, of which I have no affiliation. I just thought it was cool.

I've had dealings with this 'Music-Outlet-Shop' which were not good. The guy took the money and I got nothing back till I prompted him by email. He said I didn't specify the color of the item I ordered. My Paypal record shows I did. He then emailed me with abusive emails, but sent me the item. However, it was obvious that if I hadn't hassled him he'd have kept my money and done nothing.

Also, if you check his prices, he's consistently about 30% over market.

YMMV, but just a 'heads up'.

I've tried those synth basses before NUTT...my uncle has had one. It's really weird-it will twist your mind I'm telling you. And sounds like crap too.

The only cool thing about it is the novelty of it, ya know...but for a $1000? Nah I'll pass.

talk about the bare minimum:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Ergo-EUB-electric-up...1QQcmdZViewItem

A stick with strings. Light? or telephone-pole heavy? Take it to the Highland Games for a nice Caiber toss. Might be almost as obnoxious as bagpipes.

Now here's an accessory you can't go without. And made with "Real Heavy vegetable leather and dome studs to complete the look."

Yep, nothing better than real vegetable leather.

Actually I have been very interested in these instruments and have even been in contact with the maker, Jessie Blue, who used to work for Warrior. Here is the website. I like his attitude and they seem to be a worthwhile alternative to the $3000+ NS EUBs. Looks like the winning bidder got a good deal.

I had intended to purchase one this year but my finances haven't allowed it. But I will get one eventually.

4 strings, but not a bass:

Wonder if they'll come out with a cello/EUB version?

I just love it when they post "no reserve" but the first bid is $4,798.00.

Awesome bass, though.

P.S. Oh yeah, "NO PAYPAL" as well. That just sings confidence to me.

A "protoype" bass...
http://cgi.ebay.com/6-String-Fretless-Cu...1QQcmdZViewItem

Just one that no manufacturer will claim. And look what they did to the A string:

That's tuning stability, huh?

That is an odd duck, Dan-Z.
The body looks well made (if perhaps a bit off-balance), a fair amount of technique and technology went into that; the electronics appear to be an afterthought, and the pick-ups themselves are crooked; and the bridge looks mounted with equal parts disdain and deck hardware (I love the single bolt that protrudes from the back, especially.)

But the tied A string is almost... endearing. Like a ragged ear on an ugly but appealing dog.

Just my mood, maybe.

Peace,

wraub

that's what that bolt through the back is for...
