Hi folks,
Craig and Jim have kindly allowed me to moderate this forum. It sort of has a synergy with the collaboration forum, and I'm happy to help out. A bit like Collab Corner, this forum is low-volume but high quality

Are you bringing Censorship to this forum? Are you saying it's not OK to work on the lyrics of any form of political protest song? Is that what is happening here?
I mean no offense, I'm just curious.

I'd pass this on via PM, but you've eliminated the option of anyone contacting you, JB, so I'll say it here.
I'd say he's bringing a degree of moderation to an abandoned forum that you've tried to make into your own billboard at the expense of the overall forum. I wonder how many people read your threads & thought this was Amateur Hour Hack Forum, rather than a place where actual discussions & info on copyrights, marketing & writing methods were dealt with.
Besides you could always post those threads in a more appropriate place like the Pol. Forum (or Coll. Corner if you really wanted to collaborate...which many suspect you don't. You definitely didn't respond to anyone's offerings. How much did you progress with those ditties? The clear indication was that you were just posting diatribes with no intention of atually making anything of them.
You could also post something else that actually had to do with songwriting or try some real interaction rather than just pretended.

MJRN, he just said above that collab would be appropriate here. I honestly dunno what your problem is.
And if you'll notice by the dates of my posts, there are periods of time when I don't even come here. I've seen posts by others staying up at the top for days and maybe even weeks at a time. I have posted two threads here, and you object.
I don't think you have ever written a politcal protest song, do you object to this well-recognized song form?
Or is there some other kind of Censorship you'd like to impose?

What key is it in, Johnny? What tempo? What's the chord progression for the verse(s)?
You might want to mention some musical terms on occassion.

Again, only posting here because JB prevents any other method of contacting him.
JB, I've written lots of music & lyrics in a wide variety of genres/styles; I've even worked with a commercial house in Austin TX, years ago. I know a bit about what I'm saying &, as said before, someone taking 1/4 year to play at writing a jingle would be outta luck.
As to collaborating here (as opposed to the Coll. Corner), no one, including me, said it was unwelcome. Same dillio with protest songs. What is unwelcome---& I'm hardly the only one to suggest this, just check the commentary on the threads in question---is the pretense of writing/collaborating when you never followed anyone's suggestions; offered any idea of the structure, music or eventual use of the "tunes"; or made any actual progress in developing them, other than to add a line or two. Tell us how that equals songwriting or collaborating? All you need to do is make an honest effort in any of those areas. Can you?
The only objection to your threads (again, not just from me) was their insincere front. I'm sure you hate WalMart; so do I but posting that endlessly here has what purpose? [All these questions were already asked in those threads, however so I doubt you'll acknowledge them ever.]
Perhaps other threads stayed up becase people were active in responding to them, rather than being propped up by their originator.
BTW, I still think you're just rankling because I beat you to the punch in wrapping up The Ballad of Tom DeLay...but in any case, let's move on (hey, there's an idea---try offering your efforts to moveon.com, I'm sure they're dying for a really great music-master who can work as productively as you). If you feel the need to keep at me about this, at least make it possible to discuss this somewhere else so we don't bug everyone else here. OK? Otherwise say what you want & take the last word.
Nusrses, feel free to delete my comments here if/when you want to clean this thread of the debris.

Oh, so CENSORSHIP has come to this forum. And some object to a political protest song being written from a "words-first" approach.
BTW, I've written hundreds of songs from a music-first, chords-first, melody-first, bass-first, and even drums-first approach. Some involve a combination of different approaches, some I've co-written with others. Some have even been publicly performed by classical string quartets, which I'd wager some of my harshest critics cannot say, but such is the life of a damn "critic."
Will you shut down any and all minority viewpoints? Is there no such thing as minority rights here? Is this mob rule by the right wing?
I think you ought to re-open two my threads. I think you ought to stand up against right-wing mob rule and show this forum does not bend over to right-wing sponsored Censorship.
As a creative forum, this forum should not bend to any form of Censorship, no matter what quarter its source.
C'mon, show some guts and integrity.

Johnny B - this is the end of this discussion - I have made my points. I would in the nicest way suggest you cease and desist from further rants on this forum. Consider it a friendly heads-up.
Thank you

Jeez, I'd ban this guy for "Excessive Drama Queen Tendencies Regardless of Political Affiliation."
The moderators in these forums have absolute authority to maintain these forums as they see fit. This is a forum about songwriting. I realize you want to push a particular political viewpoint, but man, it's getting tiresome. And I'm FAR from right wing.
I think you're being "censored" not because of your political viewpoint, but because of your appalling lack of taste and people skills.
