Read this. I didn't give too much thought to sampling from this perspective, but I think the writers have a point here...

Thanks for the info. I read the article, and I have to agree. If you think about it, it really does make sense that the songwriter should participate in any award that honors the song (Record of the Year, Album of the year, etc.). More power to him!

"Glow of Love" was actually thefirst song that really introduced audiences to Luther Vandross. I just don't see how a song that has been sampled can win a grammy (regardless of category) and NARAS would not want to at least regonize and honor the underlying work.
That "silly American" poster has issues-most times people comment and keep on moving. It was stange, though.

You really expect the clueless leadership at NARAS to make common sense of their true purpose? (Recognizing the best recordings each year.)
How many times must I mention that there are only 4 production and engineering awards from an organization called the National Assoc. of Recording Arts and Sciences? 2 classical, 2 non-classical.
Why not just face the fact that the Grammy's are a love fest for those who make huge money for the record companies and a few esoteric artists that tickle the fancy of those in charge.
The saddest point is that Janet Jackson hasn't spoken out regarding this issue. It shows what little respect she has for the real songwriters of "her" tune. (Why the hell does she get a Grammy for Song Of The Year, anyway? Do the stars of a movie get Oscars for Movie Of The Year? Of course not! They are recognized for their performances. The same should be true of artists. You shouldn't be recognized for the writer(s)' accomplishments.)
The Grammy's and the organization are a bad joke on the world's music community as a whole.
