I would very much like a new forum with the following parameters:
- does not allow anon posting - requires posting under a real name - moderator deletes nasty posts, ad hominem attacks, etc. immediately - religious advocacy is not allowed - three line limit on .sig lines - people aren't afraid to call "Pro Tools" Pro Tools. - where people actually talk about recording

I'm for that!
BTW, there ARE some 'polite' forums out there. The Neumann Berlin site, for instance, has managed to remain pretty professional over the years. Of course, the topic has to be about(mostly Neumann) microphones- but perhaps that is one of the key things about that forum's relative success on the pro/politeness scale.
I sometimes wonder if the wider-ranging, 'post about almost anything in audio' forums run a bigger danger of crazy veerings into troll threads.
I also think that anon posters are much more likely to say stuff they wouldn't say to anyone's face at, say, an AES convention. With rare exception, posters who put their names and their business' names on their posts are more careful what they say. I like it that way, myself.
sincerely
Mark Lemaire (not my real name)

I will say that I have tried to delete overly-edgy posts quickly, and have been less than successful - they tend to get out of control very, very quickly.
I think that a better approach is going to see individuals act responsibly - as if they're might have a long career in recorded music, and are going to have to learn to be cool.

Sheesh...
...I kinda' thought this dirty laundry got washed back in Oct/Nov?
Did someone forget the Rinse cycle?
Wassup all of a sudden with the "Tick, tick, tick..." thread...and now this one?
I've been keeping a low profile the last few months...even completely avoiding ALL political threads...'cuz I realized that they were a total waste of time.
But now this shit...well, it all seems so political too...???

Well, not to be spammy, but Geroge's new forum WILL be that way, the admin of R/E/P will see to it. The tone will be far different from the 'pit, I assure you...

I am sorry that the writing seems to be on the wall for this board, it was one of the finest for quite a while addressing most of the first posters points.
I have to say that I am sceptical on the future of the R/E/P/Marsh boards. IMHO it will be hard to contain the vibe of the Recpit and stop it corrupting potentially more serious boards. I hope it works out, seems some good people are moving there,
cheers, Ruairi

For real. The way some people act, it seems as though they've already given up on their careers and reputations. Yet some continue to spout their alleged credentials, so it's obvious they still care about their rep to some degree... as long as it's only for the purpose of self-aggrandizement and not personal responsibility.

yes this forum is very very good.
There was a time where all one could read was someone bashing PT, claiming that Logic was better in all aspects. Very boring threads era have gone.
Just to be careful: deleting silly/non sense/unpolite posts cleans the house but I have seen in another forum this attitude having a major drawback. I think Brad agrees with me and knows what I am atalking about.
Why not sign under one´s real own name? BTW.. My name really is Alécio Costa, any google search may reveal stuff.

And unfortunately, even if you required "real" names, how are you going to confirm that? By getting a Cr. Crd. # from people? Who is going to provide that? Even on a free site (card # only for ID verification) a lot of people either don't have a CC or would be uncomfortable with providing one. - moderator deletes nasty posts, ad hominem attacks, etc. immediatelyThe second I see them, they're gone. However, I am not able to spend 24 / 7 waiting for them to show up, and neither can any other moderator I am aware of. - religious advocacy is not allowedI respect other people's religious beliefs, and hold my own very dearly, but that's WAY OT, and not generally something I'd want to see on my forum. - three line limit on .sig linesFour or five would be fine with me - for example, I have no problem with Lee's four line sig... but I think I know where you're coming from. I see no need for sigs that take up half a page either. - people aren't afraid to call "Pro Tools" Pro Tools.Fine with me. - where people actually talk about recordingThat's pretty much all we talk about. Come visit us if you get a chance. http://www.musicplayer.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=27&submit=Go High end guys are welcome too. Oh, and FWIW, I completely agree with what GM said: I think that a better approach is going to see individuals act responsibly - as if they're might have a long career in recorded music, and are going to have to learn to be cool.So for anyone who doesn't want to abide by the rules and take personal responsibility for their own actions and words, please don't bother visiting.

I think George is right, and that's part of what I was getting at with this...
The truth is, if people had to post with a real name they would be more apt to act with responsibility. Yes, it's impossible to VERIFY actual names, but just requiring a valid operational email address be attached to every profile would be a step in the right direction.
I think responsibility only comes from visibility.

George is doing a fine job at moderating this forum.
Dont be a wuss, remember: sticks and stones.
If a thread gets ugly before George gets a chance to edit it, and it scares you, DONT read it, seriously its that easy
The man already has a LOT to do, so cut him some slack and just enjoy the banter, or not. Some of these guys are digging their own graves, let em. They cant hurt you.
This forum is great and is always my first read on the net
