on mixdown i have a few different options on which to eq with upon mix down... i am mixing down on my soundcraft ghost so my question is really, which of the following can beat the eq section on my board , if any. my choices are these: DOD 31 band EQ; DOD dual 430 dual 15 band EQ; Ultrafex pro, multiband enhancer by behringer; vintech x73i; eq's within my software (cool edit pro)

The only thing on that list that I'd take "over" the Soundcraft's EQ's would be the Vintech.

If that is all available--Vintech---if the Behringer is the latest Ultracurve Pro 2496 DAC Processors..maybe >>>>> otherwise the Ghost/x731 combo for mixdown. Or send the mix to your favorite mastering house.

So the EQ section on a X73i is not considered up to par?

Well, maybe not by GM - he's the EQ expert, and far be it for me to argue. \:\) But I've always liked the Neve type EQ's, and IMO, the Vintechs are sonically identical.

YMMV.

so george,

did you make your comment because the list is junk or are you speaking highly of the ghost eq? or both? ...or neither. when you say none of the above is ghost lumped in there too?

Yes, it's more than up to par. In fact it's one of the sweetest EQ's in existence IMO. George has his own wonderful EQ,that he has been built to his own (and many others) sonic tastes. I'd love to have the ability to build my own gear exactly to my specs. So, it's not a matter of 'better', but of subjective preference at this level in the game. Otherwise, I don't think anyone would be using a Neve (tm) EQ (or one that sounds *extremely* close if not identical as Phil pointed out) if it sucked.
