I can't contain myself any longer. I recently got the Millennia TD-1 Twin Direct box. This just blows my mind. I was a little smarting because I'd always wanted an Evil Twin. I've used one a those A LOT and really liked it's sound, but never quite got around to picking one up for myself.

I picked one of these bad boys (TD-1) up about three weeks ago and have been playing with it a little. Not a lot of time for hard core slamming but I've used it on my electric guitar, electric bass, DI from an upright bass. I recorded a couple of live gigs of my band and recorded the first one with both a mic and the TD-1 taking the DI. I liked the sound so much I might not use the mic. The second gig we recorded I saved myself the headache and didn't even use the mic, just the TD-1 on the upright. Heresy I know.

I haven't even delved into the deeper inner workings and possibilities yet, but I just wanted to say, La Grou has really done it again with this box. I'm really, really impressed. As much as I loved it I don't miss the Evil Twin at all.

We used TD-1s for the reamping on this latest round of preamp testing. For both electric guitar and bass. Very nice indeed.

Hey Henry,

glad you like the TD-1, I know you were looking forward to getting it for quite a while. It seems like you and I are the resident Millennia fans here, I picked up an Origin about 6 weeks back and I have been really enjoying it. I find the compressor to be great. Other highlights are the transformer option and the low end of the eq. For some reason I don't get on with the high end. If I need polish I invariably turn to the MDW in PT. Of course the DI is fantastic (pretty sure it's the same as the TD-1). I've also been loving the DI in the Little Labs IBP.

Anyhow I'm glad it's working out for you,

cheers,
Ruairi

Yeah, huge Millennia fan. I would have loved to pick up the SST-1, but this dropped in my lap and who am I to argue? Doesn't make any sense for me to get one now. But I'ved used the Origin quite a bit and it's lovely. Love the opto comp too. The TD-1 is like a littl Origin without the comp. Has a few more convenient options like reamp and various I/O configurations. And with the little carry bag it's mondo portable.

I'm still eager to check out a TD-1. I like the concept.

How does it sound with with keyboards?
Even though Millenia is known for transparency, this dual topology on a DI concept is very tempting.

I was thinking about getting two, and placing a pre upgrade on just one of them. I need mono vox and stereo keys/guitars front end to AD.

any thoughts?

They all ship with the "pre upgrade" now. Apparently nobody wanted it without the HV-3 mic pre so John La Grou made it standard in all models.

I haven't used it on keyboards yet, but I can't magine it not sounding great.

Yeah, it sounds great, you have to find the correct impedance setting, something I wish came with the Origin DI. I'm another Millennia fan, I have 2 HV-3D-8s, 4 Origins and 2 TD-1s. If you have 2 TD-1s you can put the mic back on your bass. \:D

Man,

that makes my Millennia collection seem pretty measly. Where is Sploeto in Italy?

Congrats on the new 8ch unit Henry, a massively practical unit and great value,

cheers,
Ruairi

I haven't been able to use a TD-1 yet but I had one question. It appears that when using the mic pre, you do not have the choice of Tube or Solid State EQ. Is this correct? Is that choice available only when using the DI or line in? I am thinking about getting a TD-1 as my first and only mic pre for a while since it offers so much in one box. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Correct. It is the solid state HV3 only.
