I have a lot of outboard gear being patched into a 16 channel Mackie 1604 VLZ Pro before being bussed into Protools HD...Since I recently acquired more outboard synths and don't have any free channels left on the VLZ PRO, I was considering buying one of those new Onyx 16 Channel mixers, hooking the remaining synths to that, and bussing 4 channels into HD as well (8 total analog in on HD)...Is there a better suggestion? I do all my mixing in protools and just use the mackie to monitor...I was just wondering if this was a bad way to go about things..I don't have the space for a bigger mixer so it's either this or patchbay....

Use the Mackie as a monitor and Preamp source. Mix inside PT. Keep it simple.
