suppose i need to record a group of three singers in a mediocre studio setting. would it be helpful for me to set up four acoustic absorber panels (each about 2'x4')on stands around the singers to help isolate them from the room? would the panels best be arranged one at each of the four quadrants (one front, one behind and one on each side of the singers), or as a single curved surface in front of the singers (mics facing the singers and facing away from the panels), or two in front and two behind the singers? thoughts? thanks.

It seems to me that that would help minimize room reflections but wouldn't block out outside noises. I'll be doing very much the same thing at home with just a solo vocalist.

You might get more feedback on the Acoustics Forum that's hosted by Ethan Winer...

That should work fine- you might want to experiment with the panels in different positions like you mentioned to see what works best for you.
I have 3 doors with foam glued on and little bases (so they stand up on their own) for the same situation. I usually put them in a 'U' shape.

try behind them - it should minimize reflections going back into the mics - that's usually the one of the worst problems - in fact, hangin a big quilt behind them would not be a bad thing.
