What are you using to compress your snare? How about verbs?

Hardware wise:
Lately I've been on a Distressor binge (damn those things!) so I have been crushing my snare tracks with that.
When it's not needed, or maybe I'm looking for something a little less noticeable, I like to use either a DBX 160x (I think) or an 1176. With the 76 though, I'm barely doing anything....maybe a db and a half....
Software wise:
La-2a or 1176. both work well, but there's nothing like a distressor on a snare!!
In terms on 'verb, I don't really use any. I work with alot of fast tempo stuff, so it usually just creates a big mess. However on the rare occation that I do use it, I use plain and simple D-verb. Usually a plate setting or room.

Tommy Vicari was using a DBX 160 on snare this morning. I think he said he was doing 1-2 dB of compression--just touching it slightly.

If I use anything, I usually use a DBX 160VU and just tap it a bit.

On the way in I'm fond of the DBX1086 preamp, whcih has a 160x style compressor as well, 2:1, no more than 3db reduction.
Mixing either a 160X or Distressor, same guidelines for settings.

certainly depends on the track, but for rock stuff, I've been leaning twards dry and aggressive. To this end, I like the LA-2A plug for comp, and the waves ren eq - it's warm, but keeps a snares 'crack' nice and sharp.
no verb is best, especially if you have good room mic. tracks, but if not, and dry isn't your bag...
try using a short verb (I like Trueverb or ReverbOne) at about .5 sec. with the high end cut about 4 db from 2k thu 20k (high shelf).
this'll give you some sense of space without cluttering up your mix.

At the moment I work with the Daking comp on snare. I really like the snare smashed with one of those. I tried the 1176 thing or a Trakker on the snare, but this one is my favorite so far.
But I hardly can't wait 'til I got a Distressor for snare

I prefer the Distressor above all else, usually in 4:1 ratio lately...fast release medium fast attack. I use samples blended in (with Drumagog), mostly for a complementary texture and increased consistency. The Distressor also brings the sample to the next level of subjective quality.

Ive been really digging using a shure 141> ward beck or 1272. I then copy the track into a new track and squish the hell out of it with a 1176 plugin. I add the compressed and uncompressed sound to taste. Usually the whole drum mix goes through an sc2 set to not squish too much. Frost

For tracking, the Distressor is my first choice. If I'm looking for a different flavor, an 1176 or 160 will get the job done.
