Have any of you guys ever been to Indigo Ranch in Malibu or done a session there, it's a place that fascinates me. Ross Robinson was camping out there for a few years but i don't know if he still works there often or not. The only info I can find about it online is an old mix article here

Anyhow the other night I was a google and I came across the fact that it was for sale

4.2 million seems like a good price if all of the gear is included, one can only dream,

cheers,
Ruairi

Cool article. I was there once years ago. I didn't work there, but had visited with a friend picking up some gear. Quite a place, indeed. Amazing location (really removed). The studio itself even back then had quite a 'dated' feel to it. But what can you say about a place with that much history and that location?

Delivered gear there back when there were dinosaurs.

Tracked at Shangri La, before Larry lost the property back to the silent partners.

Richard M, was trying to get the grand piano back to sell for drugs, Laryy was full share by then, said no.

Indigo, with the value of land any where near the Santa Monica Mountains, it's not surprising they'd sell.

Plus the in my P4, G5 resides the studio.

Hireing out is more than likely tough that far away from Burbank and Hollywood...

Um...maybe I'm confused...what was Shangri-La? Was it the same place as indigo or a different place? Were they near each other in location?

I used to live right up Corral Canyon Rd. Stopped by Indigo Rance a few times. Good sounding room, killer piece of property. It's worth the asking price just for the real estate.

The photos do look quite dated but the collection of gear sounds amazing. My wife used to be married from Reggie from Korn and hence she knew Ross well. In fact she was discussing the possibilty of some kind of production internship with him when she met me, moved to Ireland and got married. Just as well the choice wasn't the other way around

I assume there are severe restrictions on developing the property otherwise it would surely be worth more, one can only imagine what the gear alone would fetch,

cheers,
Ruairi

I've been to Indigo a couple of times, once to work with Bob Mosely (Moby Grape) and when Neil Young was mixing up there. Neil used to frequent a Mac computer store here I owned in the early 90s and invited us up.

From the pictures I see on the "for sale" web page, it appears that alot of the gear has been removed. They had some incredible custom monitors with the finned tweeters I remember. It's a very organic place, and the rooms were nice as I recall. Of course you can't beat the atomosphere of the Malibu canyons. That's a chunk of change they want for it. Malibu real estate has almost doubled in the last 8 years.

I currently live in Latigo Canyon just one canyon over from Corral. Maybe I'll take a drive up there and look around, it's been awhile.

I think this is the studio started up by Michael Pinder from the Moodie Blues back in 74. I was fortunate to be staying with Deane Jensen for three weeks during this time and every weekend we would drive out to the studio and Deane would work on the gear. He completely rebuilt the console increasing the signal to noise by 30 db!! He rebuilt all the mic pres, eq, and bussing system and replaced all the input and output transformers with his own ones. He had just developed his legendary mic transformer then.

It was a beautiful property and the house was all natural timber, oak if I remember correctly. Just to get that console would make it worth it \:\) \:\)

That's cool that you were up there when Dean Jensen was installing the board, it sounds just incredible from the info in the mix article. I'm in the middle of planning a bank heist to fund its purchase, anyone wanna drive the getaway car? \:D

Back to reality,

cheers,
Ruairi
